On The Social Side:
LIB Opens Social Season
By GRACE HARVEY
Society Editor
The Military Ball, three house
parties, seven engagements and
three pinnings highlighted the so
cial weekend at the University.
With the holidays just a few weeks
off, hopeful coeds are eyeing thir
steadies and asking Santa for dia
monds and fraternity pins in ad
dition to cashmeres, of course.
The annual Phi Kappa Psi Ship
wreck Party was held Saturday.
Guys and gals wearing -everything
from hula skirts and pirate outfits
to long johns danced to the music
of Jimmy Phillips combo. Among
the decorations which added to the
south sea island atmosphere were
driftwood, palm trees and saw
dust spread knee-deep.
Gene Welch, social chairman,
planned the party which was giv
en by the activities for the pledges.
Nick DeCresco, guitar soloist at
the Italian Villiage, led the party
goers in group singing during inter
mission. Gay blades at the Sigma Chi Bos
ton Tea Party wore frilly lace bibs,
long-tailed coats, short pants and
long stockings. Indians who also
supposedly dated back to 1776 were
present, too. The chapter house
was decorated as a ship with the
indivudual rooms as compart
ments. Tuffy Epstein and his combo
provided dance music; and the par
ty was planned by Bob Peck, so
cial 'chairman.
It was incorrectly stated in last
week's social column, that Jane
Brown was pinned to Jack Leicam.

considered them very important
and 27 to 30 per cent aid they
would be used from time to time.
Only 7 to 19 per cent of the men
said they would use them often,
and 21 to 30 per cent said they
time.
Bowling alleys would be used
frequently by 39 per cent of all
students and occasionally by an
other 33 per cent. Men and women
both seemed to consider them
quite important.
Expanded checkrooms, Individ
ual lockers for personal belong
ings, quiet rooms and shower and
dressing rooms were placed on
the survey list to appeal to stu
dents who commute to campus
fey car or bus.
The response by commuting stu
dents ranged only from 9 to 14 per
cent in the frequently classifica
tion, however. The division was
ebout equal between men and
women.
Lake said the survey does not
present the complete over-all pic
ture. It will serve only as an in
dicator of the general seeds.
Closely related or definitely
necessary facilities were not
placed on the list.
"We want students to have what
they can vat," "Lake said. "We
want to make the addition as
functional and utilitarian as possible."
