Spotting t h e Missouri Tigers a first half touch down, the Nebraska Cornhuskers came back in the final 30 minutes to down the hosts 18-12, before 25, 000 Homecoming fans Saturday. Both teams played rather ragged ball, with the Huskers showing only frequent spurts. It was" the second win for t h e Nebraskans, both in the conference. They had previously downed the K-S t a t e Wildcats 16-0. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Bengals. This also was the first time that Nebraska has beaten. MU at Co lumbia since the 1937 NU eleven turned the trick, 7-0. - ' The Missourians opened the scor ing late in the second period, after Nebraska had lost the ball on downs deep in Mizzou territory. From their own 27, MU moved the ball from that point to the Husker 40 yard line, with Gary Roll, Ed Cutwright, and Bill Rice supplying the big push. From the 40, quarter back Dave Doane, the Big 7's leading passer, found halfback Bill Craig on the 20. Two more Doane aerials went astray before he hit end Harold Burnine on the one. On the next play Doane went over from the one and the Tigers en joyed their only lead of the day, 6-0. The first big break came for the Huskers early in the third period, when a Bengal fumble went astray on the Husker 38. On the next play Willie Greenlaw hit end Don Hewitt on the 19 and the Nebraskans were on their way. Greenlaw and Rex Fischer then took the ball down to the one when Greenlaw tallied. The try for point was missed and the score was knotted at 6-6 with 7:18 left in the quarter. Seven minutes later the Huskers slipped ahead to stay. The Tigers were forced to punt, where Sylves ter Harris, who played one of the finest games of his career, took the nim.-1rin in nn Vila turn OQ arifl to turned it to the Nebraska 47. The Husker attack was once again on the prowl with Don Erway hitting Jon McWilliams on the Missouri 36. Harry Johnson went off tackle for wo, but a personal foul on the Tigers took the ball down to the 19. Johnson then went to the 12 and Harris lugged the ball to the five. An NU penalty took the ball back to the ten, but Johnson went for five and Harris drove- to the one. Erway then sneaked over and the visitors once again had the lead, 12-6. It took Nebraska only four min utes to break the game wide open On a second down play, the Tiger's Doane attempted a pass to Burnine on the Nebraska 43, but an alert Fischer picked the aerial out of the air and scampered 57 yards mv molested for the final Husker tally! Again the PAT was missed, and NU enjoyed an 18-6 cushion. The scoring was brought to a close with 3:38 left in the contest. On then own 49, Doane once again, engi neered the TD, this time hitting halfback Johnny Powell with "a 51 yard pass. The try for extra point was missed and the scoring was brought to its final resting plade, 18-12. The second Nebraska win placed them into a first place tie with the Oklahoma Sooners in the confer ence. Each have a 2-0 mark. Both teams are 2-0 in the conference. For the Kansas game End Le- Roy Butherus and Guard Jim Murphy will still be sidelined. The status of Center Bob Berguin, who missed the Missouri test, won t be known for a day or two. Basketball Opens Basketball coach Jerry Bush announced the starting dates for the first practice sessions of varsity and freshman candidates. The varsity opens sessions on the first of November. Freshman cagers start workouts a week later on November 7. IM Play Slowed By Migration Intramural action in the touch football leagues consisted of only three games Friday, possibly due to the sap on campus manpower caused by migration. Among those forsaking the obvious virtues (?) of Columbia for glory on the I.M. gridiron were the Sigma Alpha Mu team, which dropped Alpha Gam ma Sigma, 6-2. SAM did its scoring early on a first quarter TD pass from Forry Poska to Stan Wid man. AGS picked up its two-pointer in, the third quarter when a Sam mie ball carrier was brought down behind his own goal. Roy Berkenstock scored in the first period to spot Theta Xi a tem porary 6 point lead over Sigma Nu, but Sigma Nu pulled out a 7-6 victory when Larry Gausland tal lied in the fourth quarter and Eu- dell Jacobson added the winning point. Delta Sigma Phi copped a 12-7 win over Pi Kappa Phi. Correction A story in Friday's NEBRAS KAN concerning the intramural cross country run to be held to day, Tuesday, Oct. 25, stated that ". . . there will be no place for independent entries." Correctly, there will be no limit on independ. ent entries.
