Two hundred and forty four upper -
classmen at the Uiiiversity have
Deen awarded University Scholar
ships, formerly Regents Scholar
ships, for the 1955-56 school year,
J. Phillip Colbert, dean of student
ffairs, has announced.
Eighty-seven were awarded to
attudents who will be seniors; 86 to
juniors, and 71 to sophomores. The
awards pay the students' tuition
fees which are $100 for the year.

les will hold a smoker in Parlor
ABC, second floor of the Union,
Thursday at K p m. All freshman,
sophomore and junior ROTC stud
ents are invited to cttend.
The National Headquarter of
Pershing Rifles, which is situated
on the Nebraska campus, offers
administrative training to all
ROTC students Company a-2, also
located here, offers training in
drill and leadership. Also contained
in Company A-2 is' a precision
trained crack squad, color guard,
platoon, and rifle team. The crack
squad' and color guard annually
perform at the Military Ball.
A newly completed movie on
Pershing Rifles prepared by the
University photography de
partment will be shown for the
first time. Following the film,
there will be cigars and refresh

Traditional Tea
To Welcome
Women Friday
The traditional welcoming tea
given by Miss Marjorie Johnston,
associate dean for women, will be
held Friday in the Union from
3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
All women students are invited
to be special guests at the tea.
Last year, between 600 and 700
women participated in the annual
affair.
In the receiving line will be Mrs.
Clifford Hardin, Miss Johnston,
Miss Helen Snyder, assistant dean
for women; and Mrs. Phillip Vo
gel, asistant to the associate dean.
The guests will be "greeted by
Gail Katskee, president of Mortar
Board. Paula Broady Wells, presi
dent of the A.W.S., will introduce
the women to the respective
deans. Assisting with the serving
will be members of Mortar Board
and the presidents of the women's
residence halls and women's or
gaiSzations. Mrs. J. P. Colbert, Mrs. Lei
Chatfield,. Mrs. George . Rosenlof,
Mrs. Floyd Hoover, Mrs. Wesley
Poe and Mrs. Woodrow Reed will
preside at the tea tables.
Organ background music will be
furnished by Alice Mumme and
Bonnie Young.
