Of the 82 reporting for fall work outs are Nebraska A 1 1 -Staters Roger Krhounek, Lincoln; Claire Big 7 Faces Tough Foes With the Big Seven Conference teams encountering non-loop foes this weekend, Nebraska's Com huskers seem to face the roughest of the lot. The Huskers, however, may not be alone in facing an up hill battle. Webraska makes the long jour ney to Columbus, Ohio, to meet the highly touted Buckeyes of Ohio State, returning Rose Bowl cham pions. With four candidates for Ail-American honors includihg AU Everything Howard "Hopa long" Cassidy, Ohio State is going to be pressing for top honors in the Big Ten, along with the National crown. Coach Bud Wilkinson's answer to Big Seven contention on the na tional scene will be unveiled against North Carolina.-Wilkinson stated earlier this year he was re building, a task which shouldn't be too hard with 14 lettermen. The Sooners have nailed down 19 wins in a row and don't seem to be about to lose this inaugural to the Tarheels. Missouri continues to follow the pattern set by the other Big Seven schools; that of a difficult sched ule this year. The Tigers tangle with another Big Ten power in the form of Michigan. Morris, Michigan come the Batson twins, John and Bob, who play tackle. Ed Corazzi, a quarter fa ack from Fredericktown, Pa.; Bennie D i 11 a r d, ' a Mt. Pleas ant, Texas halfback; and Roy Stinnett, a quarterback from Rip ley, Tennessee, are a few of the out-of-state players who chose Ne braska as the institution where they would receive their college education. The freshmen have a two-game schedule starting Oct. 28 when the yearlings from Iowa State journey to Memorial Stadium. One week later the frosh go to, Manhattan, Kansas to engage the freshmen from Kansas State College. "Although we only have two games, we intend to make this team a working unit and we in tend to have the boys proud of this outfit," said Nyden who is in his first year as freshman coach. The mentor was a letterman on the 1946-47 editions of the Ne braska gridiron crew. He comes from five successful years as a high school and junior college coach in the football-crazy South ern California area. All students interested in sports reporting are asked to come down to the Nebraskan office and talk with Bob Cook, sports editor. An interest and knowledge of sports are the only requisites. Down, but not out, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are hoping to pick themselves up off the floor as they journey to Columbus, Ohio, to meet the powerful Ohio State Buckeyes. The Huskers opened their 1955 campaign with an upset loss to Hawaii, 6-0. The Buckeyes, last year's Big 10 kingpins and winner over USC in the Rose Bowl 21-7, will boast a powerful backfield, led by Ail American Howard Cassidy. The speedy senior halfback will be joined by Elwood at quarterback, Harknrader at the other halfback, and Vicic at fullback. Vicic is re placing the hard-driving Hubert Bobo at the fullback slot. For NU, a possibility of a few changes will be in order. Jerry Wheeler, sophomore tackle may draw a starting berth in place of sophomore Don Rhoda and Harry Johnson, junior from Valley, may go in place of Willie Greenlaw. Bill Taylor, senior guard, will captain the Nebraskans. Bill Haw kins is slated to see more action at tackle and Doran Post is chal lenging at center. At ends for Nebraska will be Le Roy Butherus and Jon McWil liams, Don K a m p e, Hawkins, Rhoda or Wheeler at tackles, Tay lor and Jim Murphy at guards, and Bob Berguin or.
