PAGE 22 DAILY NEBRASKA C&mges Planned i? Improve Ulhir&u'y Following several major changes which are planned for the next few years, "the University libraries will have unquestionably one of the most efficient library physi cal plants to be tound in any state University or land grant college." said Frank Lundy, director of University Libraries. Three major physical changes ere planned in the library system. "Love Memorial Library is now 10 years r'f. As a central library it will be more or less adequate for at least 25 years," Lundy ex plained. He pointed out, however, that Love Library bookstacks which will hold 600,000 volumes are nearly fuli. Plans have been completed for a new seven story annex for the College of Law. This annex will be devoted entirely to housing of books and library services. Lundy said it should be com pleted within the next two or three years and will be financed by pres ent building levies. Tentative plans have been com pleted for a new College of Medi cine library to be housed in the new hoepital win? to be built on that campus, the director said. The third major improvement in the library physical plant would take shape when a new College of Agriculture library building to be located across the mall from the present Food and Nutrition Build ing. The building would be approxi mately the center of the develop ment plan for the Ag College, Lun dy said. The other major improvement slated for the near future, accord ing to Lundy, is a new kind of re search library utilizing microfac simile techniques. The micro cards are produced by photography and offer the reader a complete book on one, two or three cards of three by five inch size or approximately the size of an ordinary file card. "Using any one or all three of these micro techniques, the re search library, will soon be able to acquire at nominal cost vast files of research material, heretofore unobtainable and available in a few of the great research libraries," he said. Love Library contains four main reading rooms all flourescently lighted and arranged into study areas. These rooms are provided with experienced, helpful person nel. Recent installations in the library include study alcoves avail able for assignment to graduate students and faculty. All University students are en couraged to borrow and use books and materials from the University library. An identification card, which is received on payment of tuition, is all that is necessary to secure a library card.
