Com wr 1955 nusKers improvement was dis played last Saturday, when the Cornhuskers met the Jayhawk challenge and then staved of a final KU rally to emerge victori ous. Although the Nebraskans were stunned when the Kansans employed the zone defense in an attempt to bring the Nebraska of fense to a halt, they were able to bring the visitors out of their defense and go on to their third conference win. The have lost one. Action was limited in the con ference this week. Monday night Kansas and Iowa State battled down to the wire before the Jay hawks emerged with a 73-72 win. After leading 37-36 at halftime, the Hawks and Cyclones matched point for point all the way in the sec ond frame. With 11 seconds left, center Bill Brainerd hit a free throw to give the Kansans their first conference win. It dropped the Cyclones into a fith place tie with KU. Each quintet has a 1- 3 mark. In the other contest last night, the Colorado Buffs shat tered their old scoring mark in downing the Oklahoma Sooners 91-62. The win strengthened CU's hold on first place and brought their seasonal mark to 8-4. The loss moved the Sooners farther down into the conference base ment. Burdette. Halderson paced the winners with 31 points. Les ter Lane again led OU's scoring attack with 21 tallies. It was the Sooners ninth loss in ten games. MU-KS TOPS BILL One game is on schedule for to night. Kansas State, riding in third place behind the Huskers, carry a 2- 2 conference record and an over all 7-5 mark to Missouri to tackle the leading Tigers. Missouri downed the Wildcats twice this year, once in a league contest and once in the finals of the Big 7 tour ney. Friday night finds the Nebraska-Northwest Missouri contest the only action while Iowa State treks to K -State Saturday evening to round out the week of action in the Big 7. K3 Next Next conference game for Ne braska is the 5th of February when they journey to the sunflower State to meet the KS Wildcats. They return home the 7th to meet Colorado and meet the Sooners here that Saturday. They close out their home schedule the 14th against powerful Mizzoa. They are then on the road for four con ference games, meeting KU, Okla homa, IS, and Colorado to close out their 1955 basketball schedule. The Fairer Side W.A.A. Council To Sponsor Brunch; Pina Pona, Rifle Club Entries Due By PHYL CAST Wemea's Sports Editor I tell you, from the intricate working minds of the WAA. Coun cil has emerged a fabulous idea for a party for the council and sports board. Now this party i; no ordi nary run-of-the mill party. The first pearl of wisdom was to have a party with pizza or spaghetti after quieting down the cheers with which this idea met, the next idea was a brunch well this sounded even better. Granted that pizza and spaghetti would be novel for brunch, but it was decided that we would have something a little more along the conventional line. The brunch wd be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 19 a.m. A3 you lovelies who are so fortunate to receive an Invitation, be sure to R.S.V.P. to Janet McClung at 2-7742.
