Nebraska's Cornhuskers were given a last minute reprieve late Wednesday afternoon when it was announced that their intended clash with Kansas State was can celled. Harry Good's charges can now have a few additional days to pre pare for the Kansas U. game Tuesday night. The K-State contest was given the red light because of the Wild cat court's lack of transparent bankboards. A ruling by the Big Seven fathers states that a con ference game be played either on a court equipped with glass boards or an a neutral floor. An investigation discovered that the teams could meet on the Manhattan High school court, but since it is smaller than the min iature K-Statc court it was de cided to reschedule the game on March 11. Jayhawks Next. Opening conference competition against the Jayhawks, the Husk ers may fare batter than it was cJcpeited 1hcy would with Kansas State. I Altho potentially strong with I Center Clyde Lovc-llctte and ! Guard Jerry Waugh leading the I way, Phog Allen's gang did not present any formidable power in the Kansas tourney. The Huskers, on the other hand, except for the K. C. outing and the Bradley game, have been vir tually untested. A weak pre-conference sched ule has left the Cornhuskers in the realm of the unknown. The importance of the business at hand, winning the Big Seven title, may provide the incentive the Ne braska clan needs to became a serious threat. The 19 point scoring spree against Iowa State, the Scarlet and Cream went on down at Kansas City proved .that they could come thru under fire. If they can develop more consistent point getting, there is a good pos sibility that they will grab top honors again this year. Track Coach Ed Weir has announced track tryouts will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p. m. All interested cindermen should report to Weir or man ager Knox Jones at the indoor track beneath the East Stadium at that time. The top game of Wednesday's cage activity proved to be the thriller of the evening's games, a 43-41 victory for Sigma Phi Epsilon. The Sig Eps won the nip and tuck affair from Phi Delta Theta in a game that was close all the way. Tom Loisel and Jim Walsh led the victorious Sig Eps with 17 and 16 points respectively. Jack Cady took top scoring honors for the losers with 14 points. Bob Newcombe had a good evening for the V-5's and scored 20 points but it wasn't enough to overcome a good all-around Warrior five. The Warriors won 41-34 with Lawton and Cast both dunking 11 points for the victors. In another high scoring game, the Celtics edged Dorm B by the score of 40-38. There is a lot of speculation as to whether or not the Huskers will be able to successfully de fend their throne. Coach Weir, when asked how he thought his runners would shape up, would not commit himself but he was quick to add that there was some hope because spirit was high and many of the top performers were doubling up in events it was squad depth that took the indoor crown for the Huskers last year. Cooper Prime Example. Prime example of this is indoor pole vault record holder for Ne braska Don Cooper who has re turned after taking a year's lay off. Cooper, who holds the record at 14' 2", is back to establish a new one, but he is also plan- tary team emerging victorious Wednesday, winning from the Architects, 35-32 while Dorm C was getting beat 18-12 by YMCA.
