Dr. Hixson to Direct
As College Instruction
Dr. Ephriam Hixson, head of
the entemology department, has
been appointed associate director
of resident instruction of the Col
lege of Agriculture as part of an
over-hauling policy instituted by
Dean V. V. Lambert last fall.
This revision of Ag College ad
ministration includes an associate
director of extension and of ex
periment stations in addition to
Dr. Hixsons new post.
In an interview Dr. Hixson ex
plained that he is anxious to help
any student with problems con
cerning their student life if the
problem cannot be settled by the
student's advisor.
Old flan .
Under the old set-up, various
committees were responsible for
the different phases of the Ag stu
dent's life, with the result that
the student could not seek the
help of any one person or com
mittee about a particular prob
lem. Now it is possible for students
with problems ranging from regis
stration difficulties to social or
financial problems to seek advice
from one person who is well ac
quainted with all Ag fields. "This
is no loan agency though," Dr.
Hixson added jokingly, "But we
get scared sometimes, then we
don't think."
Committees Consolidated
Where possible, committees are
being dropped or consolidated to
save time of hard pressed faculty.
However, the committee on course
of study has been continued with
Dr. Hixson serving as chairmen.
His job is to keep course require
ment substitutions within reason.
Hixson will continue his activ
ity in research as well as teach
ing. Concerns of his new position
include a better course of study,
new methods of instruction, job
placement after graduation, and
miscellaneous policies making extra-curricular
activities more val
uable to the student.
