to develop a team scaring ma
chine, has moved Dob Ccrv into
the starting lineup for the season's
basketball opener wan omn Da
kota State Saturday.
Beginning basketball practice
with a trick knee, Bob has been
improving every practice and
.should be a good prospect for All
Conference honors when the sea
son ends. Last year Bob was the
. third highest scorer on the Husker
quintet with 181 points for an
average ol 6.9 points per game.
Rounding out the first five arc
Bus Whitehead, Joe Malccek, Tony
La wry, and Bob dates.
Whitehead, second only to
Claude Retherford in scoring for
the 1948 Cornhuskers and All-Big
Seven Conference center, will be
playing his final year at center
lor" the Huskers.
t forwards for the Huskers are
Malccek and Lawry. both rugged
defensive players who should see
plentv oi action under the boards
lor the Cornhuskers. Together
they scored 209 points which
helped gain Nebraska a tie in the
Big Seven championship race.
Filling out the quintet at the
other guard is Gates, a former
All-Stale eager at Omaha Holy
Name. Although failing to win a
letter last year Gates displayed
his ability as a set shot artist and
ball handler.

of all ages will be held Saturday,

I braska pool.
I Hollie Lepley, Cornhusker var
