"Fall Workouts Essential
For Indoor Track" Weir
Coach Ed Weir, University of
Nebraska track maestro, wants
all men interested in indoor track
to start working out this fall, if at
all possible. Coach Weir believes
that there are a lot of boys in
school who are capable of making
the team. Fall workouts are very
essential to indoor track. He
wants all middle distance men to
report immediately.
There are quite a few varsity
men working out now, along with
a good number of freshmen. All
freshmen interested are urged to
come out. There will be a fresh
man postal meet Oct. 15 with
Colo, and Kaas. More postal
meets are scheduled for later in
the month.
Quite a few of the most out
standing performers in the state
high school meet last spring are
working out. The list at the pres
ent time includes Jim Abernathy,
Bob Barchus, Glen Beerline, Dean
Brittenham, Ted Conner, Blake
Cathro, Don Coupens, Hobe Jones,
Wayne Judds, Dale Schnackel,
Jim Sommers. Irving Thode, Dan

Among the varsity men work

door polevault champion, is back
in competition. He is going to try
and run the sprints along with his
polevaulting.
Harold Kopf, Nebraska 880 star,
who won the Southwest Confer
ence meet in '46 with a 1:55.6 will
be back. '
The Huskers, Conference In
door Champs last ' year, will be
without the services of Alan
Thompson and Bill Mountford,
both dropping out of school. It
is rumored that Mountford will
be back next semester.
The Huskers are weak in
weights at the time, but the fine
group of froshman footballers will
bolster the weight dept. Always
in the past footballers have scored
heavily for the track team.

running back by the name of
Dave Skrien took over the scor
ing duties. The first of Skrien's
touchdowns came on a break.
Husker Ferguson was forced to
punt after a 35-yard Nagle to
Regier pass was called back by a
penalty.
Bye ran six yards to the Ne
braska 29 and Skrien twisted
and turned his way to the goal
line. His next score came three
minutes later. Again a Husker
penalty forced Ferguson to kick.
This time the ball was downed on
the Nebraska 27. Skrien covered
the remaining yardage in two
rough plays. The scoring jaunt
was for four yards.
The game was roughly played
all the way with five Minnesota
players being carried off the
field. The well-conditioned Husk
ers had two minor injuries. Ralph
Damkroger bruised his bad
shoulder early in the first period
but Returned to the game in that
quarter. Fists flew in the last
