Swim Team edged the Omaha
Athletic Club 43-39 to capture the
Midwest AAU Championship.
Marvin Grimm and Eddie Craren
each took a first place.

Sigma Chi won the All-University
Basketball Championship by
edging the Corn Cribbers, an In
dependent Team, in an overtime
game by a score of 25-23. The
Brown Palace downed the Phi
Gams to win consolation honors
by a score of 18-16.

Harold Hunt, NCAA champion
soared to the height of 14 ft.
in. in the Texas Relays to set a
new record. Hunt was Nebraska's
only representative in the Relays.

Kappa Sigrna won the IM
Bowling Title by downing Sigma
Nu, 1718-1601. Beta Theta Pi
won the IM Ping Pong Title from
the ATO's by winning every game.
The University baseball team
dropped a 6-1 tilt to Arizona
University.

The Fort Crook Rifle team
edged the University Riflers by
a score of 137$-1340. Delta Up
silon scored an upset by defeat
ing Acacia 2 out of 3 for the
IM Bowling Title, the Acacia's
still being in front of the Suprem
acy Race.

Delta Sigma Phi was well on
its way to capture the Jack Best
Trophy with a hundred point
bulge over the second place Phi
Kappa Psi's. The Delta Sigs added
the baseball to their laurels.
Some persons are still talking
about a worried freshman girl
who came to the dean's office at
registration to inquire if the in
structor for her physical educa
tion class was Mr. or Mrs. Staff.

Presbys Capture
Badminton Crown
The Presbyterian Student
House won the Interdenomina
tional Badminton Championship
Wednesday by crushing the New
man Club 8 out of 12. The New
man Club sported a three-game
lead going into the tilt but the
Presbys proved too much for
them.
Six boys comprised the cham
pionship Presby team; Al Short,
Keevan Moriarty, Maurice Ash
land, Dave Loepp, Rex Knowles
and Bill Mundell. Final standings
were: Presbyterians, won 54 lost
18; Newman Club, won 52 lost 20;
and Methodists, won 2 lost 70.
There will be a meeting of
all Softball managers on Tues
day, April 12, at 5:05 p. m. in
Room 101 of the Physical Edu
cation building. All managers
should attend or else send a
representative to the meeting.
Nebraska Nine Gains Split
In Twin Bill Against Baylor
Nebraska's diamond squad
served notice on future confer
ence foes that they have full in
tentions of defending their Big
Seven crown by splitting the sea
son opener with the Baylor Bears.
The Huskers took the first
game 7-5, but dropped the night
cap to their southern foes by a
4-3 count. The Bears have had an
advantage in weather, getting
more outdoor work.
The Scarlet nine got off to a
roaring stait in the first game
and was never headed! Home runs
by Bob Grogan and Bill Denker
paced Nebraska to a four-run
first inning. Tom Novak blasted
a round-tripper in the second to
boost the total to 5-0.
BAYLOR picked up two in the
third and one in the fourth but
NU came back with single runs
in the .sixth and seventh to clinch
the contest. Jim Sandstedt re
ceived credit for the win altho
he had to retire in favor of Jack
Helm.sing in the fifth.
The second game was a pitch
er's duel between Elroy Gloystein
and Jim Blair. Both teams scored
lone tallies in the first stanza, and
Nebraska added another in the
third to gain a 2-1 lead. Baylor
put together a long fly and a
double steal to tally twice in the
last of the fifth for their first lead
of the afternoon.
The Huskers fought back to
knot the count in the seventh.

Singles Journey
Slated April 21
A badminton singles tourney
will be held at the P.E. Building
begining Thursday April 21. En
tries must be in Thursday, April
14, so pairings can be posted
April 20.
Deadlines for each round of
play will be posted on the bulletin
board in the IM building. Each
contestant should check the bul
letin board daily.
Any student or faculty man in
competition, in which the cham
pion will receive a medal. The
play will constitute a best of three
series of matches.
Rackets may be checked out at
the equipment cage, but each
player must supply one new bad
minton bird for each match.

Horseshoe Play
To Start April 20
The intramural horseshoe
tournament will open Wednes
day, April 20, the intramural of
fice announced today.
The competition will be by
teams playing a short round
robin schedule. The winners will
ofl's. Teams will be composed of
three men each, playing matches
of three games. The standings
will be based on games won or
lost.
Anyone in the University is
eligible and alternates may be
used, but to remain in considera
tion for individual awards the
contestant must play all matches.
The individual awards will be
made by holding a playoff of the
top eight entrants. The IM office
will keep records of all individual
play in order to select the men
for the playoffs.
The individual champion will
receive the intramural medal. The
All-university championship team
if independent, will receive me
days, or if a fraternity will re
ceive a trophy.
Entries must be in before or on
Tuesday, April 12.
Legislators Given
Builder Calendar
Nebraska legislators have re
ceived souvenir copies of the 1949
Nebraska Calendar.
The University of Nebraska
Builders, formerly the Student
Foundation, presented 60 copies of
the date-book and memorandum
to the legislature for the 51 leg
islators and employes.
The Calendars were published
by Builders last fall and were
sold to students and alumni for
$1. They include pictures of the
campus and University events.
1950 Calendar is now being pre
pared by Builders, under the di
rection of Naijcy Porter, board
member.
IM Department
Names Softball
Entry Deadline
All organizations desiring to
enter Softball must turn in their
team entries not later than Mon
day, April 11, intramural director
L. E. Means announced Wednes
day. The schedule will open April
20 at 5:00 and 6:30 and continue
daily. Sites of the contests have
as yet not been determined and
will be announced later.
The games will be played under
regular rules, except for length
which will be six innings unless
shortened by mutual agreement
before the game starts. Spikes will
not be allowed.
The present plan, if enough
teams enter, calls for leagues,
to be set up in six classifications.
The tentative divisions: Interfra
ternity, Ag College, independent,
Denominational, I n t e r-Depart-ment
and Dormitory.
The teams must have at least
six men ready to play at game
time or the game will be forfeited,
and should furnish one competent
umpire. They will alternate on
the bases and behind the plate.
Trophies will be given to the
winning fraternity and denomina
tional teams and medals will be
given to the winning independent
team.
