Huskcr hurW has been named by Coach Tony Sharpe to open
Nebraska's baseball season Monday against Baylor University.
Elroy "Lefty" Gloystein will start the second game.
Huskcr Entries Successful
In Relay Preliminaries
University of Nebraska cindermen moved successfully
through qualifying heats Friday in the Texas Relays. Indi
vidual qualifiers were Dick HuttorTand Dick Pederit, while
the 440 and 800 quartets moved into the finals in those
baton events.
Hutton's opponents in the Sat
urday finals will include such
apt men as Bientz of Tulane,
Samuels and Parker of Texas,
and Aldridge of Oklahoma
A. & M. Pederit ran second to
Rollie Prather of Kansas State
in the iron ball with a 48'2 foot
heave.
Sprint medley finals were run
Friday with Nebraska's entry of
Loyal Hurlburt, Fritz Ware,
Harry Meginnis, and Jim Martin
finishing third. Oklahoma
A. & M. and Texas Tech took
first and second.
The Huskcr 440 and 880 teams
paced qualifiers in both events,
clocking a 1:28.3 in the half-mile,
and :42.5 in the quarter. The Scar
let hopes in the 880 finals re

men have cleared 14 feet this
year.
OU Starts Work
On Cinder Track
Construction began this week
on the University of Oklahoma's
new $50,000 cinder running track,
probably one of the most prac
tical and modern in the nation.
The new track will be nine
lanes wide all around the course.
The straightaway will also be nine
lanes wide. Drainage facilities will
be much improved. Two thousand
feet of pipe will pull the water
off the track after rains. Portable
bleachers seating 3,500 will be
installed south of the track. Con
struction will be finished some
time in May.
All Navy KOTC students who
have not passed their swim
ming: tests are asked to report
either Saturday. April 23 or
Saturday, April 30 to the
Coliseum pool to take the tests.
The tests will be given from 10
to 12 a. m. on both days.
Sigma Nn Gains
IM Playoff Berth
A full intramural schedule was
played week as all teams set
their sights fin the playoffs
which start April 7.
In badminton Sigma Nu won
a playoff berth by beating Delta
Sig's 9-0 and the Sig Ep's 5-4.
The Beta's won over the Fhi
Gam's 5-4, Sig Alphs beat Brown
Palace 8-1, the ZBT's took the
Kappa Sig's and the Presbys
beat the Methodists 12-0.
Phi Delta Theta cinched the
squash trophy by shutting out
Delta Tau Delta 9-0 in the only
squash game.

Craren Places
Ninth in NCAA
Diving Compct
Eddie Craren, Nebraska's sopho
more diver, ended his first sea
son of collegiate competition last
weekend at Chapel Hill, North
Carolina, by coming in ninth in
the high board diving in the Na
tional Collegiate Athletic associa
tion swimming and diving cham
pionships. A field of over thirty divers,
representing all parls of the coun
try, competed in the evci-t. Cij
ren finished with 320 points to
cop the ninth position.
Craren's record at the r.d of
his first varsity year consisted of
a third in the NAAU diving cham
pionships, a championship in the
Midwest AAU championships and
a Big Seven title m the confer
ence high board events, i i rlddi
tion to his placing in the .NCAA
event.
