Vespers are planned each week complete with speakers, music and worship services of various denominations. Vespers Give Students Chance To Forget Problemsof Life BY NORMA CIIUBBUCK Lost in the rush at the end of the week? A quiet place to collect your self and your thoughts is the Episcopal chapel where All-University Vespers are held every Thursday at 5 p. m. Originated by the YWCA, Ves pers are designed to be a short 25 minute service in a religious, yet non-denominational atmo sphere. NOW DIRECTED by the Ves pers planning committee of the Religious Welfare council, the service combines music and scripture readings with speakers who discuss topics of current in terest. A wide variety of topics are discussed by outstanding speak ers throughout the year. Recent speakers have included a state senator; the director of CROP, European food relief project; faculty representatives; and Dr. Albert Rosenthal, UNESCO com mission member. A musical meditation is some times held when there is no speaker. DURING THE YEAR, a stu dent leader from each religious group on campus conducts the service as it would be 'conducted in his church. Music is furnished at each service by the Vespers choir, directed by Myra Hauge, and by Ginger Samuelson, who plays the organ. Officers of the Vespers plan ning committee include: Chair man, M. J. Melick; student lead er, Bob Schmidt; Charles Swan, in charge of speakers: Jayne Swan, secretary; and Bob Grue ber, publicity chairman.
