THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Wednesday, December 1, 1948 Page 4 13 Institutions to Welcome Red Cross Holiday Project At least 13 local institutions will welcome houses and groups this month as hosts to the Red Cross Institutional Christmas project plan. Audrey Rosenbaum, vice presi dent of the college unit, announced that the following homes will co operate in the special program: Orthopedic hospital Tabitha Home for Children and Old Folks Penitentiary Lincoln State hospital State Home for Children Reformatory for Men Cedar Home for Children St. Thomas' orphanage Poor Farm Veterans' hospital St. Elizabeth's hospital Bryan Memorial hospital Lincoln General hospital Designed By Unit The Christmas project ot trv Rad Cross was designed by a col lece unit committee to interest students in the needs of local in stitutions, besides carrying out the real concepts of the Holiday. Campus organized houses, clubs and organizations have been asked to co-operate in the plan by selecting a home and provid ing some type of Christmas en tertainment there before vacation. Possibilities for activities include caroling, skits, decorations, gift distribution, visits and special ward shows. Represent Varied Types The 13 institutions represent varied types of personnel from small children to men to old peo ple. Activities can be keyed to the members of the homes by the sponsoring group. The college unit will assist Y Forum Deals With Religion In Education A forum discussion on "The Place of Religion in State Educa tion" will be held in the Temple building Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. This forum is spon sored bv the university YMCA. ThP T?ev Vircil Anderson of the Warren Methodist church and the Rev. Philip Schug of the ah Rmils Unitarian church will hp tho main sneakers. The discussion will be based on the Supreme Court case of McCollum vs. the State of Il linois. The subject of the case was the teaching of religion dur ing school hours. A Mrs. McCol lum had protested that it was not right for "her son to learn re ligion in the public schools. First taken to state courts, the case was finally carried to the Su preme Court. The decision, in favor of Mrs. McCollum, de clared that it was unlawful to teach religion of any sort during school. Reverend Schug will uphold the court decision. He was Mrs. McCollum's advisor during the trial. A cabinet meeting at 6:30 p. m. will precede the forum. LaPoc to Address Engineer Students Engineering students will have the opporunity of hearing a rep resentative the Armstrong Cork company. Mr. LaPoe, Assistant Employ ment Manager of the Armstrong Co., will address a meeting of engineers in room 14 of Avery Lab today. The audience will be given an opportunity to ask questions after his address. groups by providing transporta tion and by making necessary ar rangements for the visits. It will direct the projects through a cal endar of institutional events. Dr. ' rton Will Address IS Convocation Dr. Ruth Leverton, research worker in foods and nutrition, will visit the department of Home Eco nomics at Iowa State college, Dec. 2. Dr. Leverton will speak at a department convocation commem orating the birthday of Ellen H. Richards, founder of Home Eco nomics. Her topic will be, "The Human Side of Research." In the evening she will speak at the Omicron Nu banquet on "The Way of an Investigator." She has done extensive work in the research department of the Foods and Nutrition department here at the University. At pres ent she Is working on a metabol ism test sponsored by the Home Economics club. Another such test will be made next semester, and girls interested should apply to Dr. Leverton.
