Huskers Face
Sooner Team
The Cornhuskers meet a pow
erful Oklahoma Sooner aggrega
tion in Norman, Okla., Saturday
at 2:30 p. m.
It was this same Sooner team
that defeated a favored Missouri
eleven, 41-7, last week end with
the pupil. Bud Wilkinson, show
ing the teacher, Don Faurot. Both
Wilkinson anI Faurot were
r aches at Iowa Preflight during
th 2 war where Wilkinson learned
the split-T formation as employed
by Faurot.
Sooner at Full Strength
The Sooners will be at full
strength for the first time in
weeks. Injured players who have
returned to the squad are Wade
Walker and Nute Trotter, tackles,
Right End Bobby Goad and Cen
ter Pete Tillman. All saw limited
service against Missouri.
Coach Potsy Clark's squad will
not be at full strength as the
Husker mentor had to leave
Gerry Moore, Bob Ackerman, and
Kenny Fischer home because of
injuries.
Burris Top Blocker
Oklahoma has one of the best
lines in the country but the
Husker line has shown steady im
provement and is set to surprise
Jack Mitchell and his Sooner co
horts. All-American Paul "Buddy"
Burris who plays guard, fs a top
blocker in the Sooner line that
stands fourth in the nation in
rushing with its average of 300
net yards per game.
Mutt and Jeff Combo
The Sooners have a Mutt and
Jeff end combination in lanky
Jim Owens and 167-pound Bobby
Goad that has done a great job
this fall in the pass receiving de
partment. Wade Walker and
Homer Paine are also two stel
lar linemen.
Oklahoma's backficld fs smart
and fast with Jack Mitchell, who
is not only a slashing runner
from scrimmage, but probably
one of the Big Seven's keenest
quarterbacks.
Last year Mitchell led the Big
Six in rushing from T-formation
quarterback, and in 1946 he led
the nation in average yards of
punt runbacks. He is the main
cog in Coach Bud Wilkinson's
spilt-T offense.
Won Six Straight
Righthalf George Thomas is an
other mainstay in the Oklahoma
offense. The fleet back leads the
Big Seven with 615 net yards
rushing.
Wilkinson's squad has won six
games in a row, including vic
tories over Texas, defending Sugar
Bowl champs, Texas Christian and
mighty Missouri, the squad which
walloped Doak Walker and com
pany of Southern Methodist.
In the 27 year series with Okla
homa, the Huskers have won 16,
lost 8, tied 3.

Saturday
orites, the game could be a closer
struggle than is indicated. The
Husker coach, Potsy Clark has
made some changes that should
give the Scarlet a stronger de
fense against Jack Mitchell's
split-T formation.
The Sooners are known to be
lax in their pass defense which
leaked for two touchdowns against
Santa Clara. On the other side of
the ledger, Nebraska has not been
too sharp when it comes to pass
defense.
The Huskers have nothing to
lose in Saturday's encounter
while the Big Seven co-chnm-pions
are pointing for their game
