Peters, Uw Associa- Film Adoption Of Gorki Novel To Run Friday "The Lower Depths," famous French film adoption of Maxim Gorki's renowned novel, will be the first of "this year's scries of foreign movies sponsored by the YMCA. The epic will be presented Fri day, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9, in Love Memorial library audi torium. Admission will be 50 cents. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the YMCA office in the Temple or at the YWCA office in Ellen Smith hall. Demo Governor Candidate To Speak at 'Y' Meet Tonitc Frank Sorrell, Democratic can didate for Governor of Nebraska and former statue senator, will speak at an open meeting spon sored by the University YMCA, to be held at 7:30 this evening in the YMCA lounge in the Temple building. This is the first of a series of two meetings to acquaint students air his views on such issues as FEPC, race relations, foreign pol icy and other controversial ques tions. Following his talk there will be questions from the floor. Don Crowe, president of the University YMCA, will preside at the meeting and Jerry Young will be in charge of the meditation pe riod. Prior to the talk, the University YMCA cabinet will meet in the Temple lounge at 6:30 p. m. Bridge Instruction Ball to Supervise The first in a series of bridge lessons for beginning players will be held in room 315 of the Union Thursday, Oct. 14, at 4 o'clock, announced Dorthy Day, activities director. The lessons will be under the supervision of Dale Ball, certi fied Culbertson instructor, and will be held every Thursday from 4 to 6 o'clock. All interested per sons register in the Union office as soon as possible. Lessons are free of charge. TASSELS. Tassels will have their Corn husker picture taken at 5 p. m. Monday, Oct. 11, in the Union. All members are to wear uniforms. Home EcClub Membership Drive to Close The Home Ec club membership drive for uppcrclassmen will end Wednesday. Booths are located in the Home Ec building and in the Union. Dues for the year are 50 cents. All Home Economics women are eligible for membership. Home Ec members who have not been assigned a little sister will find their names posted on the bulletin board in the Home Ec building. Each girl should con tact her little sister and bring her to the general Home Ec club meeting Thursday. Oct. 14. Six positions on the Home Ec club council are open for inter estcd students. Filings will be held in the Ag Union, Oct. 5-12. Those who are interested should file for a general position on the council and from the list who file, six girls will be elected at the general meeting, Oct. 14. The six who are elected will be appointed to positions as determined by the present council. All upperclass Home Ec members are eligible to file. The Home Ec club is an organ ization for Home Ec majors. Meet ings are scheduled for every sec ond and fourth Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Home Ec parlors.
