Activities Hold
Big Interest
For Women
Outside activities are a compli
cated business to the uninitiated,
and there is time enough to learn
details after you've come. A few
pointers now, however, will start
you thinking of the activity set
up with a less puzzled eye to the
future.
First brush with organizations
for you women will come very
soon after you arrive, when you
will be assigned a "Big Sister"
from a group of upper-classmen
called Coed-Counselors. Counsel
ors are here to help you through
the first confusions of University
life.
Try the Y.
After you've been in the swing
of things for a while, you'll be
able to make a choice among
other women's activities. The
Y.W.C.A., for instance, is made
up of commission groups that take
in an almost unlimited variety of
interests. Each Tuesday at 5, the
Y.W. sponsors a Vesper hour at
the Student Union, and on Fri
days the coeds may drop into El
len Smith hall for tea.
Hub of the university cheering
section are the Tassels the girls
in scarlet skirts and cream sweat
ers. Their services include more,
however, than cheering on the
team. And, if it's sports you want,
you can find swimming, horse-
back riding, basketball and ten
nis, among other things, in the
Women's Athletic association.
Women Governors.
Associated Women Students is
an organization for all women
students on campus. The A.W.S.
Board has representatives from
every class, whose duty it is to
regulate, conduct and promote in
terest in school activities.
For men only are the Kosmet
Klub, Corn Cobs, YMCA, and N
club. Corn Cobs and YMCA func
tion for men as do Tassels and
YW for women.
Kosmet Klub is an organization
which presents twice a year an
all-male talent show for univer
sity students. N club, composed
of Varsity athletes, you'll find ex
plained in more detail elsewhere ,
in this issue.
Both men and women can find
outlets for any extra energy by
working for the All-UniVersity
Fund, which collects and distrib
utes money for use in universities
both here and in other countries.
Or, if your talents run toward
music or drama, there are the
University Players, University
Singers, band and orchestra.
Publications -offices are always
open to help these include the
Daily Nebraskan, Cornhusker,
Cornhusker Countryman (Ag Col
lege) and Cornshucks, campus
humor mag.

Med School Requirements
The college of Medicine at
Omaha does not, as yet, directly
concern entering students, because
only those who have completed
three years' training in a liberal
arts college are eligible.
Furthermore, requirements for
admission will change in 1951
and pre-medical students are
doubly urged to plan their work
in arts and sciences under super
vision of a pre-med advisor.
