Page 4 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Wednesday, May 12, 1948 Ag Cafeteria Wins Nat'l Award In Mag Food Service Contest The Ag college cafeteria re cently won an award of merit in the second annual food service contest conducted by Institutions magazine. The awards, presented to 37 public feeding establishments, woro crivpn at the meeting of the National Restaurant association, held in Cleveland, Ohio, in April. Winners were selected from 121 entries and were chosen on the basis of efficiency of equipment, sanitation, saving in work hours, serving facilities, speed in prep aration of food and inguenity in meeting special problems. Supervise Cafeteria. Miss Florence Smith, Ag col lege food service director, and Miss Marie Harris, food service manager, planned and supervised the installation of the cafeteria equipment. Both are instructors in Foods and Nutrition courses. The cafeteria which is located in the Foods and Nutrition building, opened September 8, 1947. It was formerly in the Home Economics buildin?. An average of 400 to 550 meals are served daily. The caletena hat spntinff room for 116 nersons Besides the cafeteria, there is also dinine room SDaee for 175 which is used for banquets and special occasions. A smaller dining room which seats 24 is available to smaller erouDS. The cateferia serves three meals a day, Monday through Saturday. Miss Smith and Miss Harris are the general directors. Cafe teria assistants are Mrs. Paul Bachberg and Miss Myrtle John son. Both are graduates in in stitution administration from the University of Nebraska. The cafe teria also employs regular full time and part time workers and some students. Laboratory for Students. Students who are studying quantity cookery use the cafeteria kitchen as a laboratory. Girls trained in institution administra tion find employment as food service managers in tea rooms, hotels, college residence halls, stu dent unions, and hospital, and may have charge of personnel in food service organizations, or serve as consultants in kitchen and dining room arrangements and in equipment manufacture. There will be a pre-Iaw smoker in room 201, Law building, to night at 7:30. Election of officers for the coming year will take place at the meeting, according to Bill Berquist, secretary. Dean Frederick Beutel urges all stu dents interested in entering law school to attend the smoker. Student Council meeting will not be held today.
