Sunday, April 11, 1948 Page 4 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Memorial Fund To Create Law Scholarships The University has received a gift of $10,195 to provide schol arships for students seeking law degrees, John K. Selleck, univer sity business manager, announced Friday- The gift was from the estate o! Mrs. Mary M. Hafner and wil memorialize her first husband William O. Hambcl. nrominenl Fairbury attorney who was killed in a Rock Island train wreck in July, 1894. Income from the fund, which has been invested in government bonds, will be used to "assist ana reward worthy and deserving young men and women to attend and graduate from law college." Mrs. Hafner remarried after her first husband's death and in the early 1900's went to Germany to live. Just prior to World war I they moved to Italy, where she died in 1918. Her husband, Paul Hafner, died in Sicily about two years ago. The will was filed for probate in Jefferson county. New Delta Chi's RcceiveCharter The original charter of the Ne braska Chapter of Delta Chi fra ternity, was received Thursday night by Russel Baade, Lincoln, president of the newly reactivated chapter, from Warren W. Etch eson, assistant executive secretary at a banquet in the Persian room of the Cornhusker. Delta Chi, which was founded as a legal fraternity in 1890 and in 1921 became a social fraternity, returned to the university campus with this formal ceremony. Dr C. Woody Thompson, Dean of Students at the University of Iowa was the main speaker of the evening. Toastmaster was Thomas Chisholm, Dallas, Texas, field secretary for the national office. Lester Dunn, Lincoln, represented the alumni at the speakers table. Nineteen men were initiated at the ceremony and the other of ficers elected were: Frank Easta brooks, vice president ; Jack Chris- tianson, secretary; John Bartlett, treasurer. Among the alumni attending the ceremony and banquet were Lester Dunn, Robert W. Devoe, John E. Curtiss, Judge E. B. Chap pell. L. F. Klein, Robert Arm strong, William R. Wright and James A. McEachen all of Lin coln; Judge Leslie Noble, Beatrice and Byron Dorn, Sioux City, Iowa. Allslrom Elected SAI President Ila Faye Allstrom was installed as president of Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music sorority, at the regular business meeting on April 6. Other officers include Dorothy Schneider, vice president; Helen Abdnar, recording secretary; Pat Larsen, corresponding secretary; Helen Murray, treasurer; Mira Hauge, chaplain; Aleta Snell, rush chairman; Roma Johnson, social chairman; Catherine Case, ser geant at arms; Dora Lee Nieden thal, program chairman; and Jean Leisy, editor. Veterans' Official To Speak Monday Richard Boiling, national vice chairman of the American veter ans committee, will speak at the Union, Parlor B, Monday evening April 12 at 7:45. Boiling is a 31-year-old veteran of army service in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. lie was veterans advisor at the University of Kansas following his discharge from the army in 1946, and was elected national vice-chairman of AVC at the na tional convention in 1947. Paul Rogers, chairman of the university chapter of AVC, states that the meeting is open to all vets and their friends.
