April 11, 1948 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Page 3 Three Squads See Action In Scrimmage Sessions Coach Potsy Clark sent his spring grid candidates through their paces Saturday as three squads held scrim mage on the north practice field. In the morning game at 10:00 o'clock, Team 2 trounced Team 5, 25-0. George Bostwock, K. Fischer and Don Schneider carried the winners backfield punch in their one sided victory. Bostwick tallied twice in the first and third pe riods, Schneider went over in the second, and Fischer kicked one extra point. The winners' other touchdown came in the third quarter on a 65-yard pass play. Fischer threw to right end Bob Schneider, who made a beautiful running catch for the score. Team 2's line stopped the losers cold throughout most of the con test. Linemen on the winning team were: Fletcher, Mussman, Means, Johnson, Godfrey, Levine, Scheneider and Reynolds. Stras heim and Taylor were the other backs to who saw action. Walt Wilkins and Roy Churchill did most of the offensive work for team 5. The losers were deep in Team 2 territory when the game ended. Halftime score was 13-0. Team 1 Takes Secoond Game. Team 1 took measure of Team 4 in the 1:00 o'clock game and captured a 13-0 victory. The win ning team's backfield was com posed of Salesstrom, Ferguson, C. Fischer and Jr. Collopy. The first score was set up when Ferguson threw a 35-yard pass to End Ralph Damkroger on the losers' 25-yard strip. Ferguson then went around his right end to score in the first period. The con version failed. The second tally came in the second period on a pass from Fer guson to End Alex Cochrane. Cochrane lateraled to Chick Story, who went over for the six-pointer. Ferguson's extra point try was good. Frank Collopy from Scottsbluff was a steady ground-gainer for the winning eleven. Members of the Team 1 line: Damkroyer, Toog, Pizinger, Costello, Sedlacek, Geoglein and Cochrane. Team 4 Leaders. Bill Sloan, Carl Dilldine and Phil Young carried the offensive attack for the losing team. Otto Copenhagen and Bob Harrington stood out in the line for Team 4. Team 1 was deep in enemy territory when the contest ended. The winners held a 13-0 halftime margin. The final game of the day saw Team 3 winning over Team 6, 21-0. Bob Ackerman, Bill Moomey went around his left end from the six-yard stripe for the opening touchdown; Dick Novak hit the right side for the sec ond; and Spellman went one yard over the center for the final score. The final two points came when Dave Doyle's kick was blocked for a Team 3 safety. Team 3 Linemen. Fox, Golan, Kane, McGill, Hawkins, Rolfsmeyer, Wilson and Sailors were part of the host of Team 3 linemen. Don Prince of Lincoln, 275 pound center, stood out in the line for the losers. The final game ended as Novak threw a long pass to Moomey on the three-yard line. NU Teams Place In Rifle Matches Nebraska University's varsity rifle team placed fourth in the fifth army area intercollegiate matches and fifth in the William Randolph Hearst competition, Sgt. John Lavold said Friday. A 15-man team competed against 17 other teams in the in tercollegiate contest. The Hearst team was composed of Don Flecher and Herbert Mil ler of Omaha, Walter Palmer of Westfield, N. J., and Mary Radke and Wilbur Scholle, both of Lin coln. Gopher Nine Drops Huskers By 6-2 Count Minnesota's baseball nine pushed five runs across the plate in the sixth inning Friday to earn a 6-2 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the Minneapolis diamond. Jim Sandstedt of Omaha, the Huskers' ace hurler, was blasted off the mound by the Minnesota rally. He was replaced by Angelo Ossino, who limited the Gophers to one hit in 2 13 innings. Sand stedt was touched for all the Min nesota runs. Gophers Collect Six Hits. The Big Ten school got only six hits but four were for extra bases and five Husker errors helped. Nebraska Shorstop Bob Grogan collected three of his team's six hits, one a triple. Fritz Hegwood, left fielder; Bill Denker, third, and Jim Sharp, right field, col lected the Nebraskans' other three safeties. Tom Novak, making his debut behind the plate for Nebraska, failed to hit in three trips to the plate.
