Tiger Ace Sets World Record;
Huskers Take 3rd In Loop Meet
Madill Gartiser of Missouri set a new world's record of
:06.8 seconds in the 60-yard low hurdles last night in Kan
sas City as the Tigers won the Big Seven indoor champion
ship with a toal of 67 points.
Kansas University upset the pre-meet predictions by
taking second place with 35 points. Nebraska, an earlv fav-

were written into the books as
the Tigers ran away with the
meet. Gartiser set two marks, one
in the lows and the other in the
high hurdles. His time in the highs
was :07.4. Hal Moore, Kansas, set
a new record of 4:18.6 in the mile
run.
A new shot put mark of 52 feet
43s inches was set by Rolliz Pra
thher of Kansas State. Another
Kansan, Tom Scofield from Kan
sas University, leaped 6 feet 5
inches to better the high jump
mark. And Missouri raced to a
new record of 3:23.4 in the relay.

Husker swimmers won five of
nine events tp squeeze by Kansas
State, 43-41, in a Big Seven con
ference meet at Manhattan Friday
night.
Nebraska clinched the victory
after the final 400-yard free style
relay which was won the quartet
of Swihart. Campbell, Allen and
Branch in 4:05.5.
Conrad King, who swam in the
150 yard medley relay, won the
200-yard breast stroke but was
disqualified because of an. illegal
turn.

the Sig Alph-Beta match.
Semi-finals for the fraternity
champion will be played March 8
at 5:00 p. m.
The Independent Leagues will

tripped Muscle Men while Huf
nagle Field beat Rustics in the
first playoffs in the Independent
league. I FT is scheduled to meet
the Hufnagle Field five March 4.

In the Fraternity B league it
will be the Phi Gams vs. Sigma
Nu with the winner playing the
Phi Deltas Beta Sigma Psi and
Sigma Alpha Epsilon meet at

Win Two Postals
Nebraska University's freshman
track team scored two postal vic
tories last week over Colorado
University and Missouri. The
frosh downed Missouri, 55-49, and
Colorado, 69-34.
Against Colorado's freshmen,
the Huskers won seven events.
Bill Mountford won two firsts in
the mile and the 880. The Ne
braskans captured five first places
against Missouri's frosh.

Frosh Wrestlers
To Hold Tourney
Coach B. R. (Pat) Patterson an
nounced Friday that an all-freshman
wrestling tournament will be
held at the' University of Ne
braska, March 12-13.
The winners of each weight
class will be awarded freshman
numeral sweaters.
P. E. Meeting
The Physical Education club
will meet in the "S" club
room, Tuesday, March 2, at
7:30 p. m. All P. E. majors and
minors are urged to attend. Dr.
Dees and Mr. Donavan will be
the truest speakers.

In the semi-finals of the Girls'
Basketball Tournament the Vet-er-anns
defeated Delta J3amma,
31-14. The Veter-anns dominated
play throughout the entire game.
Marge Bauman was high point
scorer with 22 points. This victory
places the Veter-anns in the fi
nals. They will play the winner
of the Alpha Phi-Kernel game,
which will be held Monday at
5:00.

as forfeits will be called if both
teams are not ready to start at

K-State Rallies
To Hand NU
56-49 Setback
Kansas State's conference-leading
Wildcats had to come from
behind in the last half Friday
night to defeat Nebraska's bas
ketball quintet, 56-49.
Nebraska put a tight zone de
fense on the Kansas State boys
during the first half. Not until
en minutes of the opening stanza
had elapsed did the Wildcats
score. Howard Shannon hit the
initial Wildcat bucket, and Coach
Jack Gardner's cagers had to wait
until 34 minutes remained in
the first half before they could
hit from the field a second time.
Nebraska held a 28-18 margin
at half-time, and were ahead,
28-13, at one time in the first
half.
Wildcats Change Tactics.
Kansas State changed its strat
egy after intermission and pulled
the Husker zone out by shooting
long shots. Then the Wildcats
went back into their fast break
and won going away.
Forward Rick Harman of Kan
sas State led in the scoring col
umn with 14 points. Neal Mos
ser topped the Cornhuskers with
11 counters, and Forward Claude
Retherford hit for ten.
The victory was number eight
in ten conference games for the
Wildcats. Nebraska has won four
and lost six.
