Coach B. R. Patterson's Scar let grapplers open the week-end of sports when they travel to Ames to meet the Iowa State wrestlers Friday. Saturday night the Husker matmen will go against Minnesota university's squad in Minneapolis. Capers See Action. Two Nebraska cage teams will see action Saturday night Coach Harry Good's varsity quintet travel to Lawrence, Kas., to test the high-riding Kansas university Jayhawks. Phog Allen's crew is undefeated in loop play with a record of three straight victories. Coach John Thompson's Nub bin carry Nebraska's colors in the other cage outing. The B t -am goes to Seward Saturday n: rht to meet Concordia college. T. ampson's boys have won two gmes and lost one to date. - Saturday is the big day for home athletic events. Coach Charlie Miller's gymnasts will entertain the University of Illin ois in the coliseum at 2 p. m. Illinois defeated Nebraska in a contest earlier this season. Two meets are scheduled for Saturday night. At 7:00 Coach Hollie Leply's swimmers will duel a strong Michigan State team in the Coliseum pool. Michigan State placed fourth in the N.CAA. swimming meet last year. . Coach Ed Weir win send his indoor track squad into action at 7:30 Saturday night against Iowa State's Cyclones. The Husker cindermen will be after their sec ond victory of the season. Okla homa lost to Nebraska last Satur day, 62i-41, on the Husker track. Iowa State's squad includes 11 letter winners and two cross country letter winners. Miler Bill Arlen will be one of the Cyclone's top performers. Ar len retired the Glenn Cunning ham indoor mile trophy at the championships a year ago at Kansas City. At halftime, the Links sported a 14-11 lead which dwindled to a 19-19 tie at the end of the third period. A fourth period rally gave Noi.. -rt the victory. Golf and Tennis Meeting Today It's time to dig out the old golf sticks and taanis rackets again. Golf Coach Dougal Russell and Tennis Coach Gene Leighton have issued the first call for candidates. The first meeting will be held this afternoon in the N-club room of the Coliseum at 5:00. All men interested in competing in these events are urged to attend the meeting. Sharpe Summons Baseball Men A meeting of all men interested in trying out for varsity baseball will be held tonight at 7:30 m the Coliseum's N-club room. Accord ing to Coach Tony Sharpe, the rumors that invitations will be issued to baseball men is not true. Everyone is urged to attend. Freshmen candidates will meet at a future date. Michigan State has one of the top swimming club in the country. The Spartans placed fourth in the N.C.A.A. Swimming Championships last year. Top support for the Husker team is expected to come from Marvin Grimm. Grimm will swim in the 50-yard and 100 yard free style events and will anchor the 400-yard free style relay. Marv placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in these two individual events in the N.C.A.A. Swimming Championships last year. Other pointgetters for Nebras ka will be Conrad King in the 200-yard breaststroke event and Dick Bell in diving. Bill Fenton, top backstroker on the team, has been handicapped by a cold for three or four days and is not expected to be at top strength for the meet. In the first girl's basketball game of the season, Howard Hall was defeated by Delta Delta Del ta, the final score being 16-13. Pat Hamburg was high point girl of the game with 10 points. Pi Beta Phi downed Alpha Chi Omega by 14-3. The Pi Phi's controlled the ball thruout the game, and Annis Gilmore lead the scoring with 6 points. The deadline for entering the tournament has been seet for February 9. The tournament will be of the round robin variety with three men from each team meeting in the match. Three games will be played for each match with the standings based on the number of games won and lost. Intramural Director L. E. Means has announced there will be no individual tourney in squash this year but individual matches in team play will be re corded and an individual cham pion named. Team managers who desire to secure instruction practice for their players may arrange with intramural headquarters for in struction. Squash rackets and balls will be furnished to all players. Awards this year will include a team trophy to the champions, an intramural medal to the in dividual champion, medals to all team members if the title is won by an independent team, certifi cates to outstanding players, and the names of the champions will be placed on the championship plaques in the coliseum. , SIGMA TAU Sigma Tau will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. R. 206 M.
