Nubbins Quintet Meets
York B; 1st Week End Foe
Nebraska university's B-team cagers will open their
1948 campaign Friday night when they tangle with the York
College B quintet. Tipoff is slated for 6:30.
The Husker reserves return to their home maples Sat
urday night to entertain the Morningside B club on the
coliseum hardwoods. The Saturday
test will start at 7:30. A return
engagement with the Souix City
Iowa cages will be played on the
Morningside court Jan. 17.
Coach John Thompson will take
an 11-man traveling squad to
York for the Friday's test. The
Nubbins will be seeking their sec
ond victory of the current season
at the expense of the York five.
Own single win
In their first game, Dec. 17, the
Nubbins trounced Nebraska State
Trade school of Milford by a 66
31 count. Ten Huskers saw action
in the contest and all registered
their names in the scoring column.
Thurman Wright and Kenny
Anderson were the top scorers for
the Nubbins with 11 points, while
Fritz Simpson and Bob Allen col
lected 10 and nine respectively.
Coach Thompson has been put
ting his basketeers through their
paces this week prepping for the
heavy week-end schedule. The
Nubbins scrimmaged Coach Tony
Sharpe's frosh quintets both Tues
day and Wednesday nights.
Samuelson to start
Carl Samuelson has been work
ing in the center slot as Bob Allen
moved up for part-time duty with
the varsity. Samuelson is slated
to open at the pivot spot in the
York test.
Wright and Simpson have re
ceived Thompson's nod for start
ing forward berths Friday while
Jack Cady and Anderson will open
at the quard spots.
Others who will make the York
hop are:' Doyle Busskohl, 'Jim Van
Burgh, Jack Pesek, Bob Acker
man, Allen and Winter.
Thompson's charges will get
only a one-day rest following
Saturday's encounter with Morn
ingside. They are scheudled for
tangle with Nebhaska freshmen
in Mondty's Missouri-Nebraska
conference clash.

In Close Tilts
Although still in the early round
of play, the intramural cage race
has boiled down to a bitter two
and three team chase following
Wednesday night's tests.
Alpha Tau Omega squeezed past
the Phi Gamma Delta cagers 24-22
in a nip-and-tuck battle to remain
the only unbeaten club in League
I play. The loss was the first set
back for the Fiji five in three
starts.
Phi Delta Thcta owns a 3-0
record to top League II. The Phi
Delts toppled previously unbeaten
Beta Theta Pi, 25-23, Wednesday.
Sigma Chi also has a 2-0 record in
the same loop.
Three Teams Tied.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Kap
pa Psi and Sigma Phi Epsilon are
deadlocked with 2-0 marks in
League III of the interfraternity
A loop.
Because of the conflict with the
Husker wrestling meet with the
Iowa State grapplers Tuesday
night, the intramural department
has rescheduled part of next TueS'

on the Husker scoring lead.
The hustling forward's 126
point total is 43 more than his
closest rival Guard Joe Brown,
who has netted an 83 point total.
Both have participated in 12
games.
Forward Rod Cox and Guard
Neal Mosser each have collected
77, Dick .Schlieger has racked up
64 tallies, Bob Cerv has netted 60
in ten games and Bus Whitehead
has meshed 54 points.
Other high Husker scorers in
clude: Paul Shields, 41; Anton
La wry, 20; Henry Cech, 16, and
Dick Srb, 9.
The Huskers are idle until Mon
day night when they entertain
the Missouri Tigers.
Missouri launches its loop cam
paign Saturday night by tangling
with Iowa State at Ames. Kansas
is host to Colorado Saturday.
Oklahoma is idle until Jan. 17,
when they entertain Iowa State.
Kansas State, who jumped into
the title favorites role with ten
straight non-conference victories,
opens its conference play Mon
day night against the Colorado
Buffs.
