NU Mat Squad;
Prospects Dull
Although the first intercol
legiate wrestling match Isn't until
next month, the Husker mat
squad, under the tutoring of Coach
Pat Patterson, has been hard at
work trying to round into shape.
Patterson, who is beginning his
first year as head wrestling coach
at Nebraska, is at present quite
pessimistic. The Huskers are
weak in the 128, 136, 145, 155 and
175 pound classes. Also the fact
that few replacements are on hand
to bolster the squad troubles Pat
terson. Copples Return
One bright spot will be the re
turn during the second semester
of Newt and Ed Copple. They
will strengthen considerably the
145 and 155 pound classes.
A bright prospect was picked
up from the intramural tourney.
He is Jerry Calhoun, 165 pound
champion. Tom Novak I. M
heavyweight boxing champ, has
reported to Patterson who sum
med up Novak's possibilities wrth
the remark "he is inexperienced
but there's a lot of man there."
