Novak Lands Mention; Berth Given Evans After being overlooked on a couple of All Big Six teams, Tom Novak, bruising Cornhusker cen ter, gained honorable mention on the Associated Press All-America football team. He was the only Nebraska man mentioned on the AP squad. Another Big Six footballer, Ray Evans, Kansas U. back, was named on tbe first team. Evans is the first Jayhawker ever to gain an All-America berth. "The greatest back I have ever seen," is what his coach, George Sauer, has to say about the stellar Evans. Evan's All-America backfield mates include Notre Dame's bril liant quarterback, Johnny Lujack; Bob Chappuis, running and pass ing star from Michigan, and Doak Walker, Southern Methodist whiz. Linemen on the AP eleven are Ends Bill Swiacki, Columbia, and Paul Cleary of Southern Califor nia; Boh Davis, Georgia Tech, Dick Harris, Texas, at the tackles and Guards Bill Fischer, Notre Dame, and Steve Suhey, Penn State. Tourney Pits Huskers Against Tigers Nebraska University's basketball quintet will meet Missouri's Ti gers in the first round of the Big Six Pre-Season basket ball tour nament in Kansas City, Decem ber 18-20. The Husker-Tiger game is slated for 4:00 p.m., Dec. 18. The tournament will mark the first competition of the University of Colorado as a Big Six member. Colorado officially became the seventh member of the conference Monday. Eight teams will participate in the annual basketball carnival. Oklahoma A and M will be the non-conference school represented. Eliot talked to the grid squad and some 200 University Club members on what makes a win ning football team. "Courage, not size, will pro duce a winner," he said. "Give me a 142-pounder with a fight ing heart over any giant who does not have courage on the grid iron."
