Paae 8 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Sunday, December 8, 1946 Civil Service Posts Open To Ag Grads United States civil service com mission has announced an exam ination for junior agriculture as sistant, for filling the various posi tions in the field of agriculture in Washington, D. C, and through out the country. The positions open are those of agricultural bacteriologist, agri cultural economist, agronomist, animal husbandman, aquatic bi ologist, wildlife biologist, botanist, dairy husbandman, dairy manu facturing specialist, entomologist, farm management supervisor, gen eticist, home economist, horticul urist, plant pathologist, plant physiologist, poultry husbandman, Boil conservationalist, soil scien tist, and zoologist (parasitology). Positions. The majority of the positions to be filled are in the" depart ment of agriculture and the de partment of the interior. Persons appointed to these positions will assist in research or other scien tific or professional work in the appropriate fields. The entrance salary is S2,144 a year for a 40 hour workweek. The age limits, 18 to 35, will .be waived in the case of veterans. A written general test is re quired. In addition to passing the test applicants must have com pleted a four year college course or outside work equivalent to a four year college education, with study in appropriate subjects. However , applications will be ac cepted from students who are otherwise qualified and who ex-; pect to complete all the courses required for qualification in the optional field by June 30, 1947. Applications must be received in the commissioner's office not later than Jan. 2, 1947. Announce ments, sample questions, and ap plication forms may be obtained from most first and second-class post offices, from civil service re gional offices, and from the U. S. Civil service commission, Wash ington 25, D. C. Stanford Club Plans National Drama Contest Dramatists' Alliance of Stanford University has announced its twelfth annual dramatic writing contest, presenting four separate awards for plays. The awards are: The Stevens award of $100 for the best serious play of full length in prose or verse; the Eth erege award of $100 for the best full length comedy; the $75 Gray ward for dramatic criticism con cerning stage, cinema, or radio; and the Alden award of $50 for brief plays of one act or two short, unilied scenes. The most produceable of the plays will be staged this summer during Dramatists' Assembly in Palo Alto, California. Success. Some of the more successful writers of recent years are: Mal vin Wald, whose "Sound as a Bell" and "Father was President" have won high acclaim and are both being produced for the stage; Hermine Duthie, author of "The i Festered Lily" which will have its premiere in California soon and which is now-being requested by Paramount and Columbia; James , BrouKhton, Catherine Urban, and Wanda Thomas. A few privileges extended to contributors include recommenda- ' tion of worthy plays to producing j and publishing agencies; the j preparation of double critiques by i persons trained in theatre work, i for a nominal fee beyond the fee for registration; rating of items contributed in the annual Bulletin, fcent to Libraries and interested groups throughout the country. The final dale of this season's competition is February 15th, 1947.
