Full Program Looms
For M usher. Athletes
There is another big weekend
ahead for University of Nebraska
athletic squads, with the baseball,
track and golf and tennis teams
going into action Friday and Sat
urday. Local fans will witness a great
er part of the activity, for all
Scarlet performers- except the
track and field artists will parade
their wares in Lincoln.
Coach Ed Wier wil take a 23
man team to Des Moines for the
Drake relays, one of the outstand
ing track and field carnivals in
the nation. Preliminaries in the
meet will begin Friday with fi
nals slated for Saturday.
Prospects Encouraging
After their showing at the KU
relays last Saturday, the Huskers
can be counted upon to break in
to the scoring column at the Drake
track and field show. Herb Crote
unleashed a javelin throw of 197
feet 6 ',2 inches to edge Leonard
Nabb of Michigan State by one
and one-quarter inches for Ne
braska's only first in individual
events.
The distance medley team, an
chored by Bobby Ginn, raced to
a win over the Drake University
team for the top showing in the
relay events. Harvey Stroud,
Blaine Young and Dean Kratz
were the other Scarlet members
of the victorious quartet.
The four mile relay team and
the two mile relay team took sec
ond places in team events,' Dick
Miller shared in a four-way tie
for second in the pole vault and
Norvel Barker placed fourth in
the 120 ycxd high hurdles to com
plete the Nebraska scoring.
Baseball
The UN baseball team, now
holding a record of two wins and
four defeats, entertains another
tough customer this weekend. The
Iowa State Cyclones will be on
hand for a two-game series Friday
and Saturday.
Among their accomplishments
this season the Cyclones hold wins
over Minnesota and Oklahoma
Both of these nines soundly
spanked Coach Frank Smagacz's
club in games this spring.
Last week the Ilusker baseball
team fell before a powerful Okla
noma team 11-2 and 15-5. Too
many extra base blows by the
Sooners led to the Nebraska losses
the visitors amassed five home
runs and three triples during the
two games.
Sooner golf and tennis teams
made the Oklahoma invasion en
tirely successful. Each squad scor
ed two wins over Nebraska ag
gregations to give the southerners
a clean sweep of the weekend
competition.
Golf and Tennis
Husker golfers were closer to
victory last week, losing by a
single point on Saturday to
84, but Friday the Sooners post
ed a comfortable 124-5 win. On
the tennis front Bob Huxton was
the only Nebraska netster to score
a triumph. His singles match de
cision Saturday enabled the Husk
ers to escape a whitewashing for
the second consecutive day. Okla-

WaterPolo
Victories
Alpha Tau Omega downed Phi
Delta Theta, 13-7, Thursday night
to cop first place in the all
university water polo finals. Each
team had topped its individual
league, and the game Thursday
was probably the best splash ses
sion of the season. It was a hot
contest all the way, but the Taus,
sparked by the Baughan and
Dedrick scoring combination, had
too much for the losers.
Baughan led the Taus with six
points, while Bauer, with three
counters, looked best for the Phi
Delta Theta team. To the victor
goes a team trophy and 200 points
toward the Jack Best award.
Earlier in the evening the
Sigma Nu water boys had edged
the Phi Kappa Psi six by the
score of 11-8 to take third place
in the university standings. Far
ner slammed in seven points for
the Sig Nus in a one-man scoring
spree that overcame the team
scoring of the Phi Psis, Van De
car and Howard. Each racked
up two points to lead the losers.
Fifth Place Playoff.
The playoff for fifth place, be
tween Phi Gamma Delta and
Delta Upsilon, originally had been
scheduled for Friday night, but
was postponed and will be played
tonight at 5:10.
