The movement to put the Uni
versity of Nebraska back among
the elite in collegiate football cir
cles, a position the Huskers oc
cupied before their pigskin stag
nation brought about by war
years, receives added impetus. The
increasing cloud of rumors to the
effect that Notre Dame will be, a
Nebraska gridiron opponent in
1947 are too insistent to be over
looked. Nebraska headman Bernie Mas
terson and Irish mentor Frank
Leahy have long admired one an
other, and Leahy is understood,, to
have presented the possibility of
a Nebraska series to the Notre
Dame athletic council. Pending the
approval of the dates by the South
Bend school, no verification of the
series has been announced.
No definite word on the situa
tion has been released here in
Lincoln by Ad Lewanowski, act
In Cornhusker athletic director.
The Nebraska athletic council
held a special meeting Tuesday
afternoon, and a consideration of
the Notre Dame series is thought
to have been the topic of discus
sion. If the series does materialize,
the Irish will play in Lincoln on
the years that the Huskers jour
ney to Minnesota. This arrange
ment will assure Husker fans a
chance to see one of the best teams
In the nation each season, for
Coed sports activities have all
of the zest of spring. Basketball
elimination games are fast and
furious with the Alpha Zi Deltas
and the Delta Gammas tieing a
20-20 score last Wednesday nite
and replaying Thursday evening.
The final basketball contest on
Monday brings together the Dorm
team versus the winner of the
Alpha Zi Delta and Delta Gamma
fracas.
Featured this week is the bad
minton tourney for double teams.
The partners may be of different
houses and should file their team
mate preference with the WAA
office by 5 o'clock Tuesday of next
week. After spring vacation the
tournament schedule will be
posted on the Grant Memorial
bulletin board. Those qualifying
teams remaining in the meet
should watch for bulletin board
notices concerning their games.
Contestants absent from desig
nated bowling workouts for the
forthcoming tournament may
practice Friday in a make-up sec
tion, according to Phyl Hope,
president of the bowling club.
WAA Appointments.
Yesterday noon the existing
WAA council met to appoint new
board members. Vacancies to be
filled are the student head of in
tramurals and the cabin, bike and
social chairmen.

year in and year out the Gophers
and Notre Dame rank with the
best gridiron machines in the
country.
The Notre Dame-Nebraska riv
alry lapsed following the 1925
game which was won by th
Huskers 17 to 0 in Lincoln. The
two schools have met 11 times,
each team winning five games.
The 1918 battle ended in a score
less tie.
That 17-0 win by the Huskers
was the largest margin ever piled
up by either eleven in the series
which found the Scarlet team
winning twice over Irish com
binations which included the back
field quartet known as the Four
Horsemen.
Realization of the Notre Dame
series will give the Huskers one
of the toughest gridiron slates in
the nation, for in addition to their
five Big Six tilts, Nebraska has
games with Iowa, Minnesota and
Indiana. Also a possibility is a re
turn engagement with UCLA, al
though the contract between the
two schools calls for only next
year's game in Los Angeles.
