Big Six teams will travel all
over the nation next fall during
the football season. With the an
nouncement by Oklahoma that
they have signed to meet Army at
West Toint on Sept. 28, the loop
teams have spanned the continent,
for Nebraska journeys to the Pa
ct lie coast late in November to
meet the University of California
at Los Angeles.
The Oklahoma schedule, by the
way, includes four teams who
rated special attention at the close
of Ihe 1945 grid year. In addition
to Army, the Sooners face the
University of Texas, the South
western conference champ, and
Cotton Bowl ruler; the Oklahoma
Aggies, who were Missouri Valley
champion and winner of the Sug
ar Bowl battle on New Year's day;
ana Missouri, the Big Six winner
and Cotton Bowl runnerup.
For those fans who have lost
track of the coaching situation in
the Big Six football picture, the
lineup for next year includes Ber
nie Masterson at Nebraska; George
Sauer at Kansas; Mike Michalske
at Iowa State; Hobbs Adams at
Kansas State; Don Faurot at Mis
souri and Jim Tatum at Okla
homa. This is an impressive array of
TSgt. J. Stearns,

TSgt. Jessie E. Stearns, a vet
eran of the New Guinea and
Philippine campaigns as a mem
ber of the women's army corps,
is being processed in this country
foi future civil service work in
China. She was graduated from
the university with the class of '29.
Prior to her enlistment, Ser
geant Stearns was a continuity
and publicity writer. At her first
station in Maryland, she was in
charge of radio and served as re
porter for the camp paper.
Sergeant Stearns will remain in
China as a civilian until she is
redeployed to the United States.

football masterminds! and the
conference schools should be able
to hold their own against outside
competition, even though the non
coiiference schedules of all the
member schools are more ambi
tious than those of the past sev

Baseball has also entered the
sports scene at Iowa State, where
Coach Chick Sutherland has
sounded the call for varsity can

baseball sessions three times a
week, until the weather permits
outside drills.
Nebraska hopes for a victory
over Iowa State are considerably
tuighter due to the fact that the
came will be played on the coli

Ames floor. The Iowa State court
is long and narrow and the Cy
