MgwomulMMMMa Friday, January II, 1946 THE NEBRASKAN Page 7 Kl&iisllseirs Face Peosirfiial Ksmnsas Qaaimiteti ToGHQgGiri Cornhusker fans will be in for one of the biggest basketball treats of the season tonight, when Coach Thog Allen of Kansas brings his Kansas Jayhawks to Lincoln for a Big Six clash with the Huskers at 8 p. m. on the coliseum maples. Klein Well. Nebraska mentor Pop Klein has recovered from his illness and will be on the bench direct ing the Huskers against Charlie Black and company. The Jayhawks are ranked as the top team in the loop, and are currently ahead in the con ference race with two wins and no defeats. In addition, the Kan sans won the informal Big Six tourney held in December at Kansas City. In an effort to shake the Huskers from the lackadasical style of play which has been prominent in their recent starts, Klein has juggled the starting lineup. Korte at Center. Bob Korte of Fairbury will open at the center post, and let terman Fred Hecox will start at one forward position if his ankle injury, which kept him from mak ing the Oklahoma trip, has healed sufficiently. If Hecox is not ready, Mac Robinson, Norfolk all stater last year, will get a chance to start. The remainder of the Husker lineup will be the same, with NRO Joe Brown, leading scorer, at the other forward ,and burly Leo Schneider and Jim Sandsted at the guard positions. During: their drills this week, the Nebraskans have worked against KU plays, in an effort to halt the scoring- onslaught of Charley Black and Otto Schnell backer. Wednesday night the Jayhawks had difficulty slipping past the pesky Kansas State Wildcats, for the K-Staters completely bottled up Schnellbacker and held Black to eight points. Only a scoring spree by reserve forward Gil Stramel pulled the KU five out of danger ,as the game ended with Kansas in front 39 to 26. UN Won Last Year. Last year the Huskers were able to mark up their only con ference victory of the year here in Lincoln when they upset the Jayhawks 59 to 45, and the Scarlet will be out to repeat this trick tonight. Black is definitely the key to the KU scoring machine, and as the husky forward goes, so go the Jayhawks. He was an AU American in 1942, and was chosen as an All-Big Six forward in '42 and '43. The 6 foot 4 inch star specializes in rebounds and will give the towering Nebraska de fense men a busy evening. On the other side of the rec ord, Nebraska will be able to field a sky-scraping team, as Korte, Schneider and Sandsted are all well over the 6 foot mark, and Brown stands an ewn 6 feet. In reserve, Klein has gangly Bus Whitehead, a 6 foot 7 inch center, as well as Don Barry and Chuck Mulvaney, who combine scoring ability with their height. Nebraska fans will see a fa miliar figure on the Kansas bench, for Art Peterson, leading: Ne braska scorer last year, should be on hand to perform if Coach Allen beckons.
