Friday, May II; 1945 10 THE NEBRASKAN WAA Presents bM Tournament Aivards, Plaques At a mass meeting Wednesday night WAA awards were pre sented by Mary Jo Gish, presi dent, to winning organized houses in the intra-mural tournaments played this year. The participa tion plaque was awarded to Delta Gamma. The runner-up for this plaque was Gamma Phi Beta. Awards presented to winners of the intra-mural contests are: Soccer base ball Alpha Xi Delta, Nebraska ball Gamma Phi Beta, volley ball Alpha Omicron Pi, basket ball Rosa Bouten, table tennis Alpha Xi Delta, badmin ton Delta Gamma, and baseball Dorm. The winning plaque, which is awarded to the house winning the most tournaments, was won by Alpha Xi Delta. Green Heads . . . (Continued from Page 1). way engineering at Texas A. & M. He was made head of the civil en gineering department at UN in 1943, and in 1944 was raised to as sistant dean. The appointee has had expe rience in various phases of engi neering work. He has been a con sulting and testing engineer for natural gas companies, for the city of Lincoln, for public power districts, for highway depart ments, for the army, and various private organizations. Author of many publications, Green is a member of many tech nical anc" professional societies. He is past president of the Ne braska Engineering Society and the Nebraska Section of the American Society of Civil Engi neers. Among other things, he has done investigations on paving jobs in various parts of the coun try and was at one time a con sultant for the Nebraska depart ment of roads and irrigation. Dean 25 Years. Serving for 25 years as dean of one of the major colleges in the university, Dean Ferguson has seen the college of engineering grow since 1920. Graduates of the college are holding positions in all parts of the world including Africa, Alaska, Chile, Argentina China, Japan, Dutch West Indies England, West Indies, Philippines and other countries. The enrollment in the college of engineering in 1919-20 when Dean Ferguson assumed office was 543 students. In 1942-43 the enrollment was 887 students Since 1920, the department of architecture has been added to the college. Chemical engineering has grown from a small department into a significant part of the col lege. Graduates of the College of En gineering have also made many contributions in the field of science. One designed the Oak land-San Francisco bay bridge Another invented permalloy. highly magnetic alloy of metals used in telephone and telegraph cables and also for making sub marine cable. Diana Lynn, currently appear ing in Paramount's "Our Hearts Were Growing Up, has formed a square dancing club in Holly wood which meets every Friday night. Frances Langford, who crochets constantly on the set of Pine Thomas' "People Are Funny," has been working on a bedspread for two years and will not have it completed for another year. fhouirc. inc..
