Friday, May 4, 1945 THE NEBRASKAN Ivy Day (Continued from Page 1). This year, 13 alumnae pt the Innocents society will head the procession opening the cere monies. No new Innocents will be tapped this year. Appearance of these alumnae, dressed in their traditional red hoods heralds the movement back to norma.. Mortar Boards were first masked on the university campus at the 1905 Ivy Day. "The Order of the Black Masque" seniors choose their successors by placing their masks over a junior girl s head. Again, all festivities have been telescoped into one afternoon be cause of the war. Since 1908 until 1942, classes were dismissed on Friday lor the celebration and an entire day was filled with various activities. Daisy Chain. The ivy chain is composed of senior wom en dressed in white, and the daisy chain is composed of coeds from other classes dressed in pastel colors. Each year the Mortar Boards choose two freshman, two sopho more, four junior and two senior women as attendants to the May Queen. Pages will be used this year for the first time since 1942 and the entering procession will also include flower girls and the crown bearer. Junior and senior class presi dents, Leslie Glotfelty and Jean Remmenga plant the ivy. Since the ceremonies are being held in the coliseum this year, the two presidents will plant the ivy in a flower pot on the stage, and it will be transplanted to the campus later. Two more traditions which will return to highlight this year's Ivy Day are in the Inter-Fraternity Sing and the choosing of an Ivy Day Poet. Judges for the Ivy Day sing this year will be Mr. Heuman, choir director and an instructor at Northeast high school, and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ellsworth. Mr. Ellsworth Is the music direc tor at KFOR, local radio station, Mrs. Ellsworth was affiliated with Mu Phi Epsilon, music sorority.
