V jWeHnesHay, February 21, 1945 Red Hot Wings Club Bombers '60-37, Ehlers, Lumpp Star BY CHUCK PETERSON. The Lincoln Wings defeated the 2nd AF Superbomb ers by the score of 60-37 last nite at the coliseum. The Wings went ahead on Eddie Ehler's first ' ''ket and were never headed after that. The Wings and the Bombers matchw Ou.oket for bas ket until Tatum and Lumpp went on a scoring spree to bring the score to 32-18 at the half. It was during this pe riod that Goose Tatum scored 11 of his 15 points. Big Bob Hendren was guarded very closely during the first half oy Anearn and aidn t score a single point until midway in the last half. It waa all Wings during the second half and they were paced by Ray Lumpp and Ed Ehlers In one of the fastest exhibitions of basketball ever seen in the coli seum. Lumpp started, the. half with a rebound and countered with a free throw. Tatum and Ehlers then began to pour the baskets in and the only player on the Bombers that could match either of them was Player-Coach Joe Regan. In the last few moments of the game Ed Ehlers outraced the Bombers and countered two driving baskets, to all but cinch the outcome. The Wings played smart ball stalling during the last three minutes, but they didn't have any worries after the ffrst two minutes. Ray Lumpp was high man with 18 points, followed by Goose Tatum with 15 and Ehlers with 12. High man for the Bombers was Biggs, who amassed the total of 11 points. Ahearn's defense work was one of the biggest factors in the Wing's victory, but it was really the Wing's fast break that broke the Superbomb er's back. To save them any embar rassment, their names are being withheld. This act guarantees a good laugh, and spectators can even throw tomatoes at the most loved College Joe if you like. Frankly, these boys are used to tomatoes. The two surprise acts are only a part of the whole show, but there is no doubt that the rest of the show will be even better. Tickets for the War Show are on sale every noon in the Union lobby, and from 4 to 6 in the afternoon, and from 7 to 8 every evening for 40c each. two. And if a player wants to take a free throw from this line in stead of the usual line, he is awarded two points in place of the regular one for a gift toss. It seems that everyone concerned would rather spoil the game of basketball by giving a reward for playing a sniping game instead of a driving game, than to let the tall boys play without a handicap www Even tho the Huskers have av eraged over 44 points a game they nave won only two out of 16. They have engaged m four overtime contests (and lost them all) and have lost half a dozen by only one or two points. What they need. I guess, are some rabbit's feet, four leal clovers, and some loaded dice.
