Fove Full Squads
Usftedl by CeacCii
Husker grid tutor, Glen Presnell,
Issued the first official notice Sat
urday that spring football is ap
proaching by extending to the
press a pre-season squad list.
"Can't tell much about this ros
ter," commented Presnell, glanc
ing down the list on his desk, "but
we are definitely going to open
March 15."
Presnell Intends to conduct
spring drills on a normal basis.
Conditioning exercises will preceed
actual scrimmage and a regular
intia-squad game will cap the
spring season.
"This talk of a game with a
neighboring Big Six school is
simply rumor," said the Husker
coach. "It might be a good idea
and is being carried out in the
south, but I can't see how trans
portation would be provided.
Things are stacking up pretty fair
as far as reserve calls go. Seems
like Wayne Stranathan will be the
only one to go before school lets
out in May."
First Team.
Outside of a change at one end"
position, Presnell's tentative first
lineup is virtually the same club
that opened a majority of games
last fall. Al Grubaugh, normally a
tackle, was shifted to right end to
offset loss of Marv Thompson and
Jerry Kathol, graduating wing
men. Joe Byler, 215 pounds, and Bob
McNutt, 225 pounds, should give
Presnell one of the larger tackle
combines in the conference. Stran
athan, despite his pending ERC
call, is listed at right guard, op
posite Charlie Duda, an All-Big
Six nominee last fall.
Pivot position again will be for
tified by Joe Partington, consist
ently the top lineman on the 1942
aggregation, and Forrie Bachman,
hard hitter and just a shade be
low "Bloody Joe."
Hazen Listed.
Jack Hazen is listed at the first
left end berth, a step ahead of Ed
Kyden.
Presnell can field two veteran
backfields. First choice includes
Fred Metheny, quarterback; Marv
Athey and Roy Long, halfbacks,
and Ki Eisenhart, fullback. Second
combine lists Bobby Cooper, quar
terback; Dick Thompson and
Henry ReicheL halfbacks, and
Randall Salisbury, fullback.
Veteran performers on the third
club include DeWayne Domeier,
tackle; Chuck Wright, tackle;
Howard Debus, halfback; Dean
Gelwick, end and "Tut" McKee,
Presnell. Squad poster:

We could ;it t his stno brush of the ijrccilitis .-nitl s'mir "we

We panned Mentor Allen in this space Friday for with
drawing his aces Ray Evans, Otto Schnellbacher and Harold

Mr. Allen saved his fa-c. Omaha's slated "battle of chain,

several cartons of "schnieegies" during the closing minutes.
