By Norris Anderson ! w I' ff 111 I (Sports Editor) - ; 1 A jug is a positive requisite at any Hollywood social fling. So isn't a jug an absolute necessity to the Kansas State grid team, next and Inst foe of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We have full reference to Mike "Jug" Zeleznak, the wiry 170-pound quarterback who is to the Wildcat grid team what Hillenbrand is to Indiana, what Pat is to Mike, and what Mutt is to Jeff. Mr. Zeleznak is the motivating power behind the K-State attack. Fact that an epidemic of injuries has shelved Jug for the majority of the campaign accounts for the medi ocre Wildcat record. With Dale Bradley and Vike Francis functioning at the height of efficiency, the Cornhuskers appeared " walk-away" victors over the Wildcats at the outset of the opening period last year. Score favored Nebraska, 6-0, and Kansas State was strictly on the defense. Two plays after the second quarter opened, a single feat changed the entire complexion of the tilt. Zeleznak, the Cro atian soph rom Kansas City, lugged the leather 65 yards through the entire Ilusker team to tie the score. From that point on, Kansas State shifted into high and kept the Huskcrs backing up during the remainder of the soupy afternoon. Ten minutes more pretty aptly filled by Mr. Zeleznak went by before the Kansans tallied again. Count leaned toward the Wildcats then, 12-6, and thus it remained for the rest of the game. Nebraska could gain only two yards rushing through the Wildcat line during the final two periods. Riddled with injuries during the fore part of the 1942 campaign, Zeleznak saw brief action during the Indiana mas sacre before an injured ankle forced him benchward. No longer do we believe in these pre-game injury sob tales. We swallowed enough sob stories from Mizzou to leave our system with a standing amount of salt. Then those rude Tiger invalids performed like jumping Commandos. Just like one postgame observer said: "If those cripples arc crippled, then our cripples must have rigor mortis." A decisive victory over Kansas would serve two pur poses in the Ilusker scheme of things: 1. Give Nebraska sec ond place in the league title chase. 2. Revenge the 1941 Wild cat triumph, Once again it's Saturday evening and once again as we sit in our vacant attic, we hear the roar of yon teletype. Top upset of the day occurred down in Columbus where Auburn exploded to top supposedly invincible Georgia, 27-13. Mr. Sink wieh & Co. didn't have the stuff to cope with the spirited Auburn team. Our teletype fairly jumps with excitement as more upsets roll in . . .
