WOMEN . 1 1 Fashions Society j;: Same As Life 'Junior Miss' Coeds Improve Figure With Shadow-Graph Young American girls, thou sands of them, are swishing around today, wearing dresses that show off their knees and their trim, teen-age figures, have St. Louis to thank for their new clothes which make them look both their age and stylish at the same time so says Life. No doubt you do; well here is the hitch. There are a lot of part time jobs open for UN coeds. Coeds who are not taking more than 14 hours and having some consecutive morning or afternoon hours free may obtain work by applying at the office of the dean f women. Typists with shorthand exper ience are especially needed. Dress To Size, Not Age woman's age but to a kind of fig ure, the kind that a young girl has developing bosom, tight waist, young hips. Midwestern girls be gan making over dresses to suit themselves, shortening skirts and pulling in the waists. St. Louis dress industry caught on and be gan doing gay variations on it, and the Junior Miss dress has become the must of a young girl's life, but what would such a dress be with out a figure. Basis of Industry. If pictures in Life were ob served, you would notice the shadowgraph of a girl's figure. This is the basis of observation for St. Louis industry; so is it the basis of observation of posture improvement at the university. From the shadow-graphs the posture faults of each individual are noted and special correction exercises planned. Forward head, protruding abdomen, flat chests, body segments out of alignment, and round shoulders are faults commonly found. Other shadow graphs are taken later in the year Nebraska may not have been the dress center that started the Junior Miss dresses, but our uni versity has definitely brought programs into the school that help the modern Miss with her fingers. Dr. James P. Bird, professor of romance languages at Carleton college since 1915, has taken over duties as visiting professor of Spanish at American university. The games will be played behind the coliseum as they have in the past. . All the girls are urged to take part in these activities for the fun they will have, as well as the phy sical fitness they will derive from it. It is time for the girls to really turn out and see what the out doors is like. Sewing, knitting and crocheting are what the girls of yesteryear did for entertain ment, but now yes TODAY sports and various other activities are calling for attention. Riding, riding merrily along, not in a car but on horseback. The weather is perfect and it is so much fun to canter along view ing nature's picturesque scenes. Say, what are we talking about nature or horseback riding? Well, both are interesting, but let's talk about horses. The riding club plans to organ ize regular riding parties, prob ably on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Horses are available at the fair grounds, which is within walking distance, or Pioneers park, which has regular riding trails. Worn-out silk and nylon hose can be used to make powder bags for the big guns of the army and navy, according to an announce ment of the conservation division of the war production board. WPB is organizing machinery for the collection of old hosiery and asks all the fair sex to save their discarded hose until the col lectors are organized.
