What with a lot of people we
know not back and slews of people
we don't know arriving there are
a couple of things possible to say
- anyway, welcome, and did you
know that there are some three
Mortar Boards who are supposedly
directing their activities in foreign
channels . . . Marian Bradstreet,
Gamma Phi; Both Howley, and
D. G. Mary Kline. Mortar Boards
Bradstreet and Kilne were num
bered among this summer's brides
...of which there were many:
Marian Kidd, Theta, who was mar
ried to John Smith, A TO; Ruth
t.Yinklin, Alpha Chi, to Boh Denny,
Phi Sig of a couple of years ago;
Lou Benson. KKG. to Boo Ball,
Phi Psi and speaking of Phi Pai s,
Warren Radke and DG Ginny
Wheeler join the same list along
with Chi O Alyce Hackman who
was married to Bill Kutlko in
Seattle, Wash., Saturday.
Amid the marriages a few pins
changed hands, too.,. like Gene
Studt who unpinned a Kappa key
from Al Adamson's Sig Nu star,
while brother John Ainley's pin
was accepted by Ann Beard, KAT
...John Sullivan's mighty happy
these days over seeing his Kappa
Sig pin along side of Mary Black's
Chi Omega pin... which reminds
that several of the girls are sug
gesting awfully attractive inter
ests for one Sig Alph's attentions
while the girl who wears his
sweetheart pin is out of town...
wagers are being placed daily on
how n'ock-lotmer Vili ULuneis

And the latest bulletin on Bob
Btirre.ss placing his SAK pin on
a Chicago fan dancer is that she
also took that off.
Just 50 percent of rr-1ntof

South American students
wonder 'Do we ever study?9
"Do American students ever
find time to study?" students in
Buenos Aires asked Mia Helen
Hosp, university dean of women,
during her summer sojourn in
South America. "Their negative
impression of the U. S. study
situaiion is doubtless for med," she
says, "by the movies of collegiate
life made here which almost never
show a student studying, but
rather stress campus social life."
No social life on SA campuses.
Miss Hosp reported that there is
no social life on the campuses
there, only such forms of recrea
tion as ping pong and tea parties
on special occasions. Neither are
athletics, dramatics, nor music in
cluded in the college curriculum.
Throughout her trip, however,
she noted that a majority of the
students are studying and speak
ing English, and that South
American coeds dress very simi
larly to girls on the Nebraska
campus. She was also very im
pressed with the courtesy shown
her by the students, and in return
for the kindness shown her, sent
the students of La Plata college
a subscr iption to the Readers Di
gest in Spanish for their social
room.
Miss Hosp spent much of her
summer vacation in the countr ies
of our Latin neighbors, visiting
such picturesque and historical
places as Rio de Janeiro, Lima,
Buenos Aires, and Guaruja
Islands, and Guayquaor, the home
of the tagua tiee.
Apparently there is a friendly
feeling for the United States on
the South American continent.
"The people seemed very cordial,
warm hearted, and intensely in
terested in their neighbors to the
north," said Miss Hosp. "They
are very good neighbors not only
in a business way, but because
they have much culture and back
ground to offer us. This inter-
query. Does Agnes have a DU pin
or doesn't Agnes have a DU pin?
Confusing, isnt it.
Oh yes, and from the Alpha Phi
house comes the news that Johnny
Adkins' DU pin is in the house on
Margaret Randall .... One steady
ileal that burned out during the
warm weather is that of John
Mason, ATO, and Pi Phi Virginia
Clemans if seeing Johnny around
with Max Fuller also of the Pi
Phi house is indicative. . . when
Norm Harris the guy who directs
the DAILY'S destinies came back
he left his SAM pin on Bernice
Silverman of Omaha.
One blind date that opened Bob
Livingood's eyes was with Evelyn
Clapp, Kappa pledge... the same
Evelyn Clapp who caused Stan
Truehlsen to spill Theta tea all
over the place when he saw her
lush week.
Temporarily absent the fore
part of this week were a number
of NU girls, all with destination
Omaha. Ak countesses were en
tertained at the Omaha Black
stone the same day.
Helen Severa, AXiD of Nebras

lege editor for Harpers College

ners in the Mademoiselle contest,
is back this year for more Ne
braska education.
Brr.ndy Backlund and Kmily

are going across the river and will
go to school at Iowa... and we'll
end on a matromonial note for

Professor Butterfield studied busi
