in race for second
Paced by Sophomore Roger
Adarns, who hails from the Pana
ma Canal Zone, the Iowa State
swimmers had little trouble re
taining their Big Six crown by
submerging the field in the con
ference get together in the coli
seum pool Saturday.
The Cyclones amassed 70 points
to finish 31 points ahead of second
place Oklahoma, with 39. Ne
braska ended in third with 35,
while Kansas and Kansas State
brought up the rear with 18 and
10 points respectively.
Adams and Pete Hagelin, Husker
student coach, each took top hon
ors in two events, Adams in the
50 and 100 yard dashes, and Hage
lin in the 200 and 440 freestyle
events. The former broke the only
loop record when he covered the
short sprint in 24.1 during Friday'u
preliminaries. The old mark was
24.3.
The biggest surprise of the meet
was pulled when Ralph Worden
and Ervelle Younger, Nebraska
entiles in diving, both beat out
Jarrett of Oklahoma, defending
champion. Worden received 305.9
points to finish 25 points ahead of
his teammate.
With Iowa State putting on a
one team show, Oklahoma and Ne
braska engaged in a dog fight for
second place honors. The Huskers
took the lead after Hagelin s vie
tory in the 220, only to see the
Sooners win the final event, the
400 yard relay, to grab the rui rer
up spot. Summaries:

Bruce Drake's Oklahoma team
took a 53-45 game from the Husk
ers last night as the fast traveling
Sooners, led by Jimmy McNatt,
who scored 15 points, piled up a
33-18 halftime advantage, and
were never seriously threatened
by the Huskers. The Sooners cai:
tie Missouri for the Big Six cham
pionship now by defeating Kansas
State at Manhattan Monday,
For 30 minutes the game was
featured by the Sooner team which
was as hot as the Huskers were
cold. The fast breaking Oklaho-
mans left a lackadaisical Nebras
ka squad in the well known lurch
as McNatt and Garnett Corbin in
particular poured in shots from
every angle, and increased their
halftime lead to 47-26 with slight
ly less than ten minutes to go.
Huskers Quicken Pace.
Then the Huskers got hot. A
junior-senior outfit, playing with
two and sometimes three reserves,
went to town, and brought the
count up to 48-41 with nearly five
minutes left, although the Sooners
protected their lead from then or.
out.
Coach W. H. Browne's seniors
must have been a bit flustered by
the pre-game ceremony in their
honor, and took a back seat dur
ing the game to the combination
of forwards Yaffe and Thomas
guards Pitcaithley and Fitz, and
centers Randall and Therien.
Yaffe turned in his best game
as a Husker, scoring 11 points, 9
of them in the last ten minutes
and harrying the Sooners with a
fine floor game. McNatt, who
scored eight points in the first
few minutes of the game, led the
evening's scoring with 15, while
Corbin made 12 and Roop 9 for
the winners.
Bill Callihan led the Nebraska
all-stars to a 28-23 victory over
the Husker frosh in the opener as
he sank six fielders. Summary:
