Mrictly opposed to "athletic aims,"
Coach D. X. Bible is bring forced
to "broaden" his mind a little on
the subject of subsidizing at Texas
If. The school has always upheld
the practice of paving athletes as
a cleanly sin, if any. Bible, how
ever, has set his jaw until the only
words he now drawls are that he is
opposed to subsidization.
Not intending to appear too dis
agreeable, the little bald man has
proposed his own plan of milder
payment of athietes; one that ap
peases the desires of the school
nnd one that soothes his own con
science. We learn from the "Daily Tex
an" (The first college daily In
the louth) that the ex-ctudents'
council heartily endorses the lit
tle colonel's athletic proposals.
The conclave, however, with D.
X. presiding, persisted thruout
the day last Saturday. In the
end, former grid prof had them
all in the aisles shouting "hear,
hear'' and other such gutterals
of acclaim.
His plan runs .leproxirnately
as follows: (a), employment to
each "worthy athlete," ib, pay
would be 50c per hour, tc), ath
letes, "worthy athletes" would
work sixty minutes per hour.
By this proi-al v.e arc glad to
sec that Bible has not forgotten
what he taught us about the up
and up. He still clings like a
drowning man that goo 1 football
teams can be built without fim
mortaring a foundation of silver.
His convictions, for the pirs.nt at
least must lie in a dormant stage,
for the Longhoins .-.re used to the
"mammi. buy me that." policy.
The little colonel has been
plenty busy the last few d.iys in
buttering his Texas bread with
the doctrines thct an athlete
should be a "uceful ndjurct to
the business of setting an educa
tion that will prepare the players
to be useful citizens." It is a new
course at Texas.

SMALL TURNOUT DRILLS;
FOR DUAL MEET WITH !
Few Husker Indoor Runners
Report to Schulte; j
Frosh Look Good. I
Fretting over the small turn
outs for practice, Coach Henry
Schulte is pushing his indoor
tiackmen thru some of the most
exacting workouts that they havt
had for many years. From Law
rence. Mentor Bill Harglss brings
his troupe of Kansas Jayhawks
here for a dual against the Husk
ers Feb. 20.
The results of Monday's tri
color meet pleased the genial
coach quite highly. Altho most of
the tri-rolor participants are still
in their freshman year, the vet
eran pedagogue is looking at these
meets with the good intention of
finding potential condidates for
next year's outfit. Coach Schulte
has scheduled the next tri-color
contest for Feb. 23.
Yesterday's rehearsals attracted
a moderate number of runners,
about 15 of them turning out for
light workouts. Sam Francis.

Sooners Take First Game.
The same is true of the Soon

once this season by three points.
In two engagements during the
past week, Coach McDermotl's
men won a listless battle from
Missouri to stay on the second
rung, but dropped one to the Ok
lahoma Aggies. Previously in the
season the Sooners snared a vic
tory from the A. & M.

the TiRers came to Lincoln they
wore forced to take a 17-11 defeat.
The Huskers will be seekinfr their

been defeated by Kansas State and
Minnesota, and tied by Iowa Slate.
The Knight brothers. Jim and
Milburn. continue to head the
scoring: list, having amassed
eleven po.nts each since the first
of the season. They have won
three events in as many starts and
have already earned their major
letters. According to Coach Adams,
it has been a long time since a
wrestler has won his letter in the
first three meets of the season.
Standings of the other members of
the team show Bill Luke, Flash
Flasnick and Dutch Simons all
tied with three points apiece.
Only two veterans remain in the
lineup which Missouri will send
out on the mat ti meet the Husk

defeated Fred Webster in last
year's meet, will tangle with Mil
