Side Shot Last Ten Seconds
Overtime Period Gives
Wesleyan 30-31 Win.
Nebraska's B quint lost a heart
breaker to Wesleyan in an over
time game Tuesday evening at the
Ag college court, the score stand
ing at 31 to 30 after a Plainsman
tallied a one handed side court
archer that slipped through the
net in the last ten seconds of the
thrilling game.
Coach Knight's Huskers failed
by a fraction of a second winning
the game when Lloyd Wampler.
Nebraska guard, heaved a long
one after the final gun barked,
ending the game and ruling the
last second shot void.
Nubbin stars included Hopt,
Wampler, and Jacobsen, who put
up a desperate fight in the last
canto trying to overcome Wes
leyan's constant lead. Wampler
won high scoring honors, tallying
five field goals and one charity
toss.
Kansas Capers
Top Conference
With A Losses
As five of the Big Sixers con
tinue to kick each other in the
shins, Kansas U. snuggles more
comfortably in the lap of the god
dess victory and chuckles. A more
two games gave the Big Six
scenery an entirely different land
scape last week as Oklahoma
knocked off Kansas State, Monday
evening and Kansas dumped Iowa
State Tuesday.
Kansas now stands without a
gravy stain on her vest and seem
ingly can come through with the
same tidiness, unless the Cornhus
kers do come through next week.
Chances of the Jayhawk losing
twice are few. however, thus damp
ening the flaming hopes nf Ne
braska, the only possible con
tender. The half nelson between Iowa's
Cyclones and the Missouri Tigers
was broken this week as a result
of the two conference entangle
ments. The Sooners vaulted into
third place, two notches higher
than their last week's location,
and Missouri no longer shares her
fourth place with Iowa. Kansas
State was already at the bottom
and could be no bottomer, thus
her loss chipped no Ice.
The only crucial test of the
week is the Tiger-Husker mix.
Should the Brownmen lose, the
vague possibility of a champion
ship duel would be obliterated.

Chevrolet Motor Company
Gives Motion Picture
Convocation.
Members of the Engineers ex
ecutive board will present an All
Engineers convocation on Friday,
Feb. 4, at 4 o'clock in 206 of the
Mechanical Engineering building.
As many programs as possible are
sponsored each year by the board
in an attempt to hold the college
as one unit.
The Chevrolet Motor company
will present the program. Four mo
tion pictures entitled. "Hydraulic
Braking." "Shock-proofing," "Pro
cessing." and "Safe Roads" will be
shown by the company's presentation.
"It is hoped that as many en
gineering students as possibly can
will attend as the convocation is
an interesting, and educational
one," commented Ted Schroeder,
president of the beard.
Women with vulgar and uncouth
sounding voices are most likely to
succeed as radio speakers, says
Harvard's Dr. Gordon Allport and
Dr. Hadley Cantril of Columbia.

HUSKER MERMEN MEET
MINNESOTA ON FRIDAY
Swimmers Seek Revenge on Gophers, Only Team
W;nning Over Them During Past Year, When They
Engage in First Seasonal Meet.
"Revenge" will be the watch
word of the Husker swimmers
when they engage in the first meet
of the season with the Gophers of
Minnesota, Friday, Feb. 7, at Lin
coln. The Minnesotans gave the Corn
huskers their only setback last
year, winning by the close score of
40 to 33. Last year the Nebias
kans were Big Six champions.
Minnesota is given the edge
again this year, tho this is the
first meet for both teams. Sick
ness and ineligibility have greatly
reduced the Huskers' chances, as
two of Nebraska's ace swimmers,
Jim Pixley, Big Six record holder
in the 440 free style splash, and
Reed Smith, Big Six champion in
the breast stroke, were unable to
return to school this year. As a
result of sickness, four of Coach
Minor's best hopes have been un
able to practice regularly, tho they
will probably see action next Fri
day. Pete Hagelin, distance man;
Bob Thornton, breast stroker; John
Krause, distance man, and Glyndon
I.yiHte, Blx Six record holder in
the 50. 100 and 220 yard dashes,
are among those hit by the injury
Jinx.
Gopher Proipects Fine.
On the other hand. Coach Niels
Thorpe of Minnesota describes the
prospects for his Gophers as "the
best in many yean." He has rea
son for his enthusiasm. Four let-
terroen and five reserves are bacK
from last season to form the !
nucleus for the JB38 squad. Added
to this group are 18 promising:
sophomores, two of them holding
records in state high school swim
competition.
Nebraska will have the best
chance in the medley relay, ac
cording to Coach Jack Minor. The
50 and 100 yard dashes should be
close contests between Glyndon
Lynde and Rex Hudson, Minnesota
soph who holds Minnesota high
school records in the 40 and 50
yard dashes. He hopes for little in
the back stroke or distance Fwims.
Nebraska Representatives.
Nebraska will be represented in
this meet by Jack Barry, Pete
Hagelin. Warren Calland and
cither Douglas Doit or John
Krause in the 440 yard relay; Bob
Gibbons and Bob Thornton in the
200 yard breast stroke; Jack Ga
vin and Ralph Ludwick in the 150
yard back stroke; Glyndon Lynde
and Thornton in the 50 yard free
style; Krause and Hagelin in the
440 yard free style; Lynde and
either Calland or Barry in the 100
vard dash: Barry and Krause in
the 220 free style; Harry Kuklin
and Kelvin Dealing will dive, and
in the 300 yard medley will be
Thornton, breast stroke; Hagelin,
back stroke, and Lynde, crawl.
