composed almost entirely of last
year's men.
The squad wis divided up Into
three groups for tre practice ses
sion, with Coach "Indian" Schulte
once more teaching the linemen
the tricks of going thru end how
to prevent an opponent from doing
the same. It was Stnulte's first ap
pearance at the spring practice, as
the veteran line coach has been
occupied with track work.
A large portion of the time was
spent in passing and punting, with
Coach Bible taking care of the
varsity men from !aot year's team,
and George Sauer coaching the
freshmen leather luggers. Johnny
Howell and Lloyd Cardwell of the
freshmen particularly Impressed
the coaches with their punting
ability, and Howell was flipping
passes with considerable accuracy.
Linemen Scrimmage.
Schulte and Weir had the line
men paired up and doing actual
scrimmage work against each
other. The guards were given par
ticular attention, with Heldt and
Mehring showing up well in the
art of blocking and opening up
holes.
First scrimmage of the year will
probably take place this afternoon
between two varsity teams. Sev
eral plays have been given the men
for study, and Coach Bible has de
cided to see how the men can carry
out their jobs under fire. The first
practice game of the spring season
will be held a week from Saturday,
and considerable scrimmaging will
have to be done to familiarize the
players, especially the frosh, with
the plays.
In order to aid the candidates
for positions in learning the plays,
Coach Bible had last year's veter
ans running signals up and down
the field, centering on the work of
each man in regard to the whole
team functions. A freshman team
acted as a dummy group for the
veterans to work against.
Several of the frosh line hope
fuls showed up well in practice.
Chase, former Wymore gridder,
impressed Coach Schulte with his
ability to use his 200 pounds of
bulk in blocking out opponents.
One hundred and four suits had
been checked out of the equipment
room by Wednesday afternoon,
making the present squad the
largest ever to turn out for spring
practice. Head Coach Bible re
garded the turnout with anything
but sorrow. "We are more than
pleased with the number of men
reporting," said the Nebraska
mentor, "especially since the
spring sessions will have much to
do with determining the team next
fall, and, not only the membership
of the team, but "the quality of the
team."
The Y. W. C. A. Arts and Crafts
group will meet today at 12:30 at
Ellen Smith hall.
A study group conducted by
Miss Miller on the "Life of Jesus"
will be held Sunday morning at 9
o'clock in Ellen Smith hall.
