Summer students seem to have
foi gotten how to pl.iy. Many of
them are school teachers- still

jaoie'-4ion to mold them into

As much as new courses, new
theoiies. and new material
to iefish their intellectual Inter
st., these students and a number
of ethers whose university life
thus far has served as a physical
depressant need to releam how to
play. Kor the most part their for
KClfulness of the important part
play has in a well ordered life has
l-een due to the lack of opportun
ity for it.
Opportunities for play with
proper encouragement and stimu
lation undoubtedly would be seized
by many summer students too
busy and too engrossed in their
academic pursuits to arrange for
playtime and play places, by oth
ers who hesitate to lead in such
recreational movements for fear
their associates will think tbey are
neglecting intellectual interests.

To revive such a program would
be to refresh a student body so
weary physically it cannot hope to
learn as readily, to concentrate as
effectively, and to assimilate per
manently the information gained
in summer courses as completely.

so let me conMnue and give
grievances a real airing. In the
first place, I am continually
astounded by the mixed herd
of humans attending the sum
mer session.
In the winter session, there
scorned to be only three classes
of students, the "cake," the
grind" and the "great middle
class." The "cakes could al
ways be found n these loafing
dens on the south side of K
street, the "grinds" in the Li
brary, and ths "great middle
class' ail over the campus.
THE summer session presents
greater difficulties cf classifi
cation, but the outtanding divisions
seem to be the following:
(1) Graduate students in
search of a degree and very
serious about it. They miss no
opportunity to tell all about
their "theses."
i 2) Teachers, leaving work
behind and reveling in an orgy
of courses. With brief case and
notebook, they go about col
lecting "methods" to inflict
upon the "little darlings" they
will return to next fall.
(3) "Hunk chasers," try
