Radio Transmitter
Anie. Iowa. April 4. A new
short-wave radio transmitter la be
ing built In electrical engineering
at Iowa State college, under the
direction of Phil Konkle. engineer
for tb college radio station WOI.
Construction of the transmitter
was undertaken as a practical pro
ject for students in radio courses.
An obsolete ship transmitter, fur
nished by the Radio Corporation of
America nlll be utilized for parts.
Hocause the function of every part
will be discussed as th work pro
gresses, some weeks will be requir
ed for completion of the project.
. After completion the set will be
used for communication with ama
teurs on wave-lengths of from bo
tto 170 meters. As th original
transmitter was designed for 200
watts, that power, much greater
than the ordinary amateur set of
7.5 to 10 watts, will be used, Kon
kle says.

this year and if the Hukr coach

Nebraska applecrasher . should
stand right up at Ihe front of the
conference.
Dr. "Phog" Allen at the Univer
sity of Kansas la advocating that
batketball be Included in Ihe
Olympic program for the neat
meet at Loa Ariaeles In 1932.
When the National Association of
Baaketball coaches meet in Chicago
this week. Doctor Allen will bring
this topic up. This would not be
such a bad suggestion but If basket
ball is going to be Included why
not let the mythical football cham.
Dions of the country be included
on the liat of sports also. Maybe
Sweden, Germany or Holland All
Star would furnieh a great thrill
to the Olympic followers In Los
Angeles. Or how would this sound
Carnegie Tech vertue Finland
for the Olympic football champion
ship? Allen states also that he is
not favoring any changes In the
batketball rules, not even a change
In the center position on the basket
ball five. At the opening of the
baaketball seaaon Doctor Allen was
almost convinced that the center
tip-off was all wrong In the basket
ball play and that the sphere
should be tosted in from the side
much the tame as In water polo.
Evidently the Jayhawk Dictator
has change his mind since that
time.
Coach Dible has started a bunt
ing expedition in the Cornhusker
football camp. The new gridiron
coach Is hunting for a pilot to
bark the signals behind the 1929
Scarlet football eleven. Since the
departure of "Reb" Russell, stellar
quarterback on the 1918 team.
