CORNELL SOON
Wrestlers Open Season With
Dual Meet At Mount Ver
non on January 21
Nebraska's wrestlers will open the
1928 mat season with a dual meet
with Cornell college at Mt. Vernon,
Iowa, January 21. The university
matmen are hard at work in prepara
tion for the initial meet
Four veterans are back in the line
up this year, and Coach Johnny Kel
logg considers the outlook very fav
orable for successful season. In
addition to the experienced wrestlers
the new candidates are showing ex
ceptional promise.
, Lettermen on the 1928 squad are
Captain Earl Luff, Palmyra, 135
pounder; John Kish, Lincoln, 115
pounder; Joe Toman, St Paul, 158
pounder; and George Davis, Filley.
Veterans who are not with the mat
men this year are George Brannigan,

TWO CLASS B TEAMS PLAY
Sigma Phi EpJon took a fast,
rough game from Sigma Alpha Ep
silon on the Coliseum floor last
night, winning the game 38 to 21
This game is in the championship
flight of the interfraternity basket
ball tourney.
The" game in the opening stanza
was fast with both fives working at
top speed. The defenes of the Sig
Alph five was functioning and hold
ing the opposing forwrads to the long
range variety of i.hota. But in the
second half the game turned into a
free-for-all with roughness being al
lowed on both sides.
"Bill" Sawyers for the Sig Alphs
was high point man for the losers,
snagging five tallies from the field
and one by the free throw route.
Toms and "Pinky" Morrison also
showed up in good form. Arnold
Oehlrich, forward on the Sig Ep
quintet led the attack against the
Violets and collected fourteen points
while his running mate Krause snag
ged eight baskets from the field and
a lone tally from the foul line.
The game was a battle in the
opening half with both teams play
ing on even terms but in the second
stanza the Sig Alph five began to let
down on its defense and the Sig Eps,
led by Oehlrich and Krause took ad
vantage of their wearied opponents
and commenced a barrage of baskets
at the hoop.
Four class B games were run off
on the hardwood last night as the
preliminary to the Sig Ep-Sig Alpha
fray. Phi Kappa dropped a hard
fought gam to the Pi Kappa Alpha
five; losing the game 24 to 13. The
second game on the evening was the
Sigma No-Taa Kappa . Epsilon game
which was won 10 to 8 by the Sigma
As the evening proceeded Phi Del
ta Theta and the Phi Sigma Kappa
basketeers ot together on the floor
to fight out a hard battle which was
captured by the Phi Sigs 23 to 13.
Burkhart and Griffen kept up the
scoring for the victors aud played a
rice floor game.
The next and fast contest on the
evening's program was the walkaway
