jtem of organized cheering at the
football games played this season.
This is the first time that a secfcon
has been set apart for rooters and
the success attending the initial at
tempt makes for its continuance dur

sport.
Situated on the fifty-yard line,
the stunts provided by the special
cheering section are visible from all
parts of the stadium.
Containing six hundred men stu
dents provided with red and white
reversible caps, the special section
added color and an air of gayety to
the home games of the Cornhuskers.
Occupants of the section were also
ed to admittance to all athletic
events n the home grounds of the
University of Nebraska.
These medals will be awarded for
the first time to the graduating ath

SONGS WERE BROADCAST
Singing at every football game
and at the rallies preceding, the
Gridiron quartet provided enter
tainment for many students and pa
trons of Nebraska University. The
quartet sang only at rallies at the
first of the school year but was re
quested to sing during the intermis
sion of football games for the as
sembled fans.
This year's Gridiron auartet was
composed of Carl Olson, first tenor:
James Shane, second tenor; Herbert
Morrison, baritone, and Paul Robin
son, bass. The name of the quartet
was selected because it was some
thing new and different from the
usual Varsity quartet.
At the Syracuse-Nebraska game,
the quartet sang the Syracuse alma
mater song over the public address
system and KFAB. The quartet re
vived an old Nebraska song "Long,
Long Ago" and sang it during the
Homecoming game intermission.
The quartet has endeavored to
sing a few popular songs along vith
the school songs. These songs are
difficult for a quartet to sing, how
ever, and the number ot popular
songs is relatively small.
Members of the quartet plan to
appear at social affairs during the
remainder of the year.
A sawdust trial is to replace the
traditional old board walk leading
to "sorority alley" at Indiana Uni
versity. The old board walk has
been well known because it is the
only one on any university campus.
