12 . THE DAILY NEBRASKAN - Fourteen Huskers Play Last Time (Continued from Fagv 1) Grange who romped over the coun try's gridirons for the Ulinl two years ago. Glenn led the scorers of the Valley and leaves a vacant place in the Husker backfield that will be difficult to fill next season.' OcblrkJi Noted for Dfno Arnold Ochlrich, Husker fullback and one of the best defensive men in the conference, is the third back to be lost to the Oorohnskor school this season. Oehlrich has completed his three years for Nebraska and during those three seasons he was a tower of strength in the Scarlet backfield. Oehlrich was the man who kept the opposing backs from penetrating the Husker forward wall and backed up the line on plunges. His offensive work and snagging passes was a bright spot in the sea son's victories. i The last three Husker backs to be lost by graduation this year are : Bill Bronson, quarterback; Don Lin dell, quarterback; and "Vic" Beck, halfback. Bill Bronson alternated with Captain "Jug" Brown at the pilot position all season and was named on several All-Valley elevens. His work in the Nebraska backfield was one of the high lights in the ) 1927 season. Beck and Lindell were both reserve backs and when insert ed into the Cornhusker backfield came through with the necessary yardage. Randal Lost to Line In the line, Nebraska loses Ray Randels, All-Valley tackle and one of the best linemen in the middle wept. Randels was elected captain of the line and his last year on the Husker gridiron gained for him the respect of his teammates and the recognition of football critics throughout the country. Randels is considered one of the best tackles ever turned out at Nebraska and his place in the Nebraska line was a powerhouse on defense this season. Preen ell and Randels were two of the graduating players who received the highest honor of conference play era when they were invited by Coach "Andy" Kerr of Washington and Jefferson, to play on the All-Eastern team. Both accepted the invitation and will feature in the All-East-All- West game at San Francisco this montji. Lawton and Loo Co Vint Lawson and Evard Lee, the -Nebraska wingmen, are lost next year by graduation. Lee's work all season brought comment from fans and critics alike. His work in the Kaggie game at Manhattan was of the stellar variety and the long pass that he snagged from "Dutch" Witte brought the initial Husker touch down. Again in the New York game the Scarlet wingman brought the 35.000 Thankseiving fans to their feet by his sensational and deadly tackling. Lawson was Lee's mate on the other end of the line and upheld the reputation of his side. Lawson was a great defensive man and he got down on punts and passes in great style. His three years of Husker football are completed and his loss to Nebraska will be a big one. Lom Five Other Other members of the scarlet clad Cornhuskers who will be lost by graduation are: Lloyd Grow, center; Clarence Raish, guard; George Shan- er, end; Leon Sprague, end; and Bob Whitmore, guard. Next fall football practice will start again as it has been since back in the dim dark days of the 80's but these fourteen men will not check out suits. They will be out in the busy world in some line of progress and the Nebraska coaching staff will spend long hours of hard and stren- ous work to mould up men to take the place of Fresnell, Brown, Oehl rich, Randels, and many others. But the coming sophomores prom ise just as much in store for Corn husker football fans as this year did. The places of these graduating stars will be filled and will be filled by men of sterling ability and Husker fight. Purple and gold corsages, the pro ceeds of which go to the Y. W. C. FOOTBALL Nebraska's brilliant record the past season has been one of achievement and glory. The country's greatest coaches have nothing but praise for the "Scarlet Jerseyed Cornhus kers." I now wish to congratulate our team for their decisive victor ies. Our coaches had to match their genius with master coach es such as Meehan of N. Y. U., Henry of Missouri, Bachman of Kansas Aggies and Andreas of Syracuse and in all but one of these games won decisive victories.
