Lake Forest is, unique in being about the only college which fur nishes most of its professors with homes on the campus. The homes vary greatly in age and convenience, and residence in them is assigned on a seniority basis. Yale University has prepared a series of appropriate motion pictures for a history course which has been approved by the fauclty. This is an attempt to determine how motion pic tures may best be used to help in the teaching of American history. Alphonse 'Taft Hall, the newest building at the law college of the University of Cincinnati, was dedi cated October 27. William Howard Taft, chief justice of the United States supreme court, delivered the dedicatory address. Women at Washington State Col lege, Pullman, Washington) are firm and constant in their demands for continued and increased quality of the sexes, according to the, Washing ton Evergreen. Women claim they can do anything a man can do and that they can do it just as well, or better. Consequently they demand that they be on an equal footing with the sterner sex in all respects. Several worthwhile suggestions have been made for the establishment of a more nearly perfect condition of equality between the men and wo men. One of the best concerns the book store and comes from the wo men themselves. Finding a long line of men constantly becupying that vantage point, the front of the book store, the women have come to realize that they have no adequate place to loaf on the campus. They are in sisting that half of the frontage of the store be reserved for women who desire to loaf for a few minutes, or to stand and contemplate the passing crowd. The neat green lawn between the bus depot and the music hall has also proved a source of temptation to the women, and has led them to forget the commandment about covetous ness, for they eye longingly the group of men taking their ease on the grass during these pleasant autumn after noons. For long years the men at Wash ington State College have grieved over the unfairness- of the rule con cerning military training. The boys are patriotic, and they do not mind the drill, even when they freeze their fingers in the morning winds, but do feel that thed have been discrimi nated against. "One thing is certain, if equality of the sexes is achieved on this cam pus," reads the article, "one event must come to pass. The women must be made to realize that they are in a way superior to the men when tranc ing for physical fitness is concerned. Furthermore a law will have to be enacted which will compel all women to turn out every morning at the same time that the men go out to drill, for supervised training of some sort. Suggestions received by the editor include group calisthenics, the training for wartime nursing, hiking, and genuine military training of, a light nature." Men must no longer be expected to remove their hats when entering the elevators in any of the buildings, con tinues the article. Womon insist that they be allowed to wear the rooter cap, which is now for men only. The bus driver has announced that he will henceforth make no dis tinction between men and women. College rules and traditions which were meant for both sexes, but which the women break frequently and with no qualms of sonscience, because they are in no donger of punishment, will be enforced impartially and un mercifully. If both halves of the student body are rated as equals in all things, some surprising results may be expected. Men and women kess nearly alike now, both wearing the same blazers, sweatres, scarfs, and shoe. We may find every one wearing in addi tion, regardless of sex either knickers or Oxford bags. The women doubt less take up smoking in public, also. The men are much interested in the insistence of the women for finan cial reaons. If women get all the other privileges of men, they will certainly be expected to go fifty fifty on thecost of entertainments which their patient escorts now pro vide free. Yale Plant Budget Undergraduates at Yale are being asked to contribute an average of twenty-five dollars apiece, or e total of $27,500 to a Yale budget. This budget is for the purpose of making donations to charities and tradition al institutions- sponsored by the Yale students. MORRILL HALL HAS ROOM FOR ELEPHANTS (Continued from Page One.) tends to make this hall of elephants a spectacle unequaled anywhere in the world. The hall will be 120 feet in length opening out of the main vestibule of the museum. Caacs twenty feet deep and twenty-six feet in height will house the dozen fossil elephants that have been selected from the present collection. The reconstructed mammoths will measure from twenty-five to thirty feet in length. The tusks of the largest elephant are three feet long, and with the head make a total length of eighteen feet. There are enough of these fossils to line the hall on both sides. These animals will be restored as nearly as possible to their original positions and given a back ground composed of animal life of the period. The presence of the large fossil beds in the western part of the state makes it possible to fill the new mu seum, which will be 240 feet in length and 120 feet in width, with an unusual nvmber and a variety of specimens. Many valuable speci mens which are now packed away in cellars for lack of display room will be placed on exhibition in the new building. '83. Another early one was that of A. II. Page in September 1884. G. 0. Ilearn carved his name there in 1886. There were no names or initials dated prior to 1883 because the wood frame work was not installed in the tower until several years after the building was constructed. Nor are there many recorded after the eighties because the tower has been kept locked in order to keep out the prank-inclined studenta. The incident that led to the closing of the tower was recalled by one of the regents in the inspection of the Friday that determined the fate of the building. The students once car ried a young calf way up to the top of the tower as the main part of a student prank. The tower was order ed closed after that.
