THE DAILY NEBRASKA!! BUSKERS HAVE EASY WORKOUT Team Has Light Practice Dur ing the Early Part of Thi. Week PLAYERS NURSE INJURIES It is a buttered team which is practicing on the field south of the stadium this week. The bugaboo of injuries has at last hit the Hunker cmp, and a number of hurts have "followed in the wake of the invasion of the Washington Huskies last Sat urday. Work in preparation for the Kan sas (came this week has been so far been light, but some strenuous prac tice will undoubtedly be the order for Coach K. K. Bearg's proteges from now on. Dope of course favors ers, but word from Lawrence indi cates that Kansas is putting forth extra efforts for a more finished squad to make the trip to Lincoln. The Jayhawkers have few injuries to bother them, and Coach "Potsy" Clark will bring an aggregation trained for one feat to beat Neb raska. In Kansas-Nebraska games the Huskers have a large margin of victories, which provides all .the more incentive for a Jayhawker vic tory this year. It is doubtful whether Kansas can weather the storm of the Nebraska team, but at .he same time Coach Bearg is letting no instruction go by. The practices this week are just as mcuch in earnest as those of last week. The Huskers pulled a good trick when they held the Washington team to a tie; yet the game showed in a startling fashion defects which must be remedied before a championship aggregation, or anything like that, is produced. Husker Football Fans Are Turning Their Attention to Valley Games With the Washington game over, Nebraska football fans are turning their attention to the Missouri Val ley teams which the Cornhuskers meet during the remainder of the season. The game with the Kansas team Saturday will bring together two rivals who have battled on the gridiron for years. These Home coming opponents are bringing to Lincoln an aggregation of football warriors who are filled with deter mination to gain the first victory ov er the Cornhuskers since 1916. Kansas this year has a line made up of six men who top the six foot mark. And the seventh, an end, is five foot ten inches tall. They are a fighting bunch of gridsters who have learned a lot of football since the start of the season despite their defeat at the hands of Iowa State the Husk-1 "pge 8n ne Kansas Aggies. Kansas always points for the clash with Nebraska, and never have the Cornhuskers been able to gain a vic tory over the boys from the btate to the south without a hard fight. Ev en in the years of 1921 and 1922 when the Nebraskans won fame for their defeats of Pittsburgh and Not re Dame, respectively, the Kansas game proved to be one of the hard est hurdles on the Nebraska cam paign. And in 1923, when Nebras ka again downed the fightingrish of Notre Dame, Kansas held the strong team to a scoreless tie. Oklahoma is Threat Behind the Kansans is commenc ing to loom more formidably than at any time this year the threat of the Heavy Kansas Tackle lias All-Valley Honort Oklahoma Sooneri. The Oklahomana Saturday won their way to a 7 to 0 victory over Drake and showed them selves a much improved eleven over their earliest showings. And after the Oklahoma struggle, Nebraska must prepare to meet that Drake Outfit, which walloped the Kansas Aggies. Or. the Saturday fol lowing the trip to Des Moines, the Cornhuskers will take another Jour ney. They must meet the Kansas Aggies, victors over the University of Kansas, at Manhattan. The upset of the dope bucket last Saturday caused by the defeat of the Notre Dame team by the Army is caunong concern in the Coinhusker camp. The Nebraska followers had hoped that Notre Dame would' sail through another season unmarred by defeat. The psychology of football would then favor the Nebraskans, but with Notre Dame emerging from the Army game with the tero end of a 27 to 0 score, the Nebraskans con not hope to meet an overconfident Rockne eleven rather they will meet a team more determined than al 1 for TenniS ever to defeat them. The date for the second numeral meet has been set for Thursday, October 29. The men who cannot report for the field events and runr-ing events at the time they are scheduled may run for time at the close of the meet and their time will score them places in the events according. Howevei-, in the sprints and hurdles all men must report for the first race as this arrangement is not possible for the shorter events, according to Schulte. The meet starts at 4 o'clock and will end at 5:30 allowing plenty of time for each event. Varsity foot ball men and Varsity cross country runners will not compete, Coach Schulte explained. The idea of the meet is to allow the new men and men of lower caliber a chance to win the numeral honors in the sport In the spring there are estimated to be 800 men out for track of which only about thirty receive the covet-. As a result, in order that the men who have marked ability and have worked hard, may get recognition for their efforts, Coach Schulte devised the numeral system several years ago. With the opportunity to devote his entire time to track, Schulte has extended the period of numeral winning into the fall training period. "A new numeral was devised last spring which is more in keeping with tne sport," said Schulte. This num eral is a scarlet-winged track shoe, with '26 in white felt on the front.
