CREDITS ARE EXPENSIVE AT UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS (Continued from Patce One.) In answer, some members of the faculty were emphatic In denials, some said that they had heard of the practice, and some said "in other de partments." Some professors argued that under the American university system it was necessary to flunk a certain num ber. One summed it up by saying that every student must make a grade of 70 per cent to pass the courses and that if the entire class failed to make that mark, then all should flunk, On the other hand, if all made that grade, all should pass. From five to twenty-five per cent is the usual number who fail to make the required course, it was stated. Wide variation in regard to "good grades," running from seventy to ninety-six, would seem to indicate somo difficulty in determining the number likely to pass a given course.
