A prompt response was made to
the selection of the Nebraska all
class team by a team composed of
the members from several of the
inter-class elevens who challenged the
"supposed all-class" team to a game
to be played as soon as possible.
Such a controversy had arisen that
every one was disclaiming the re
sponsibility of picking the team.
A Samarian red lynx, which had
becbme the talk of the University,
had arrived. It was brought to San
Francisco by a returning army offi
cer and forwarded from there. Some
difficulty was experienced in getting
the animal through the custom house
With the animal came the informa
tion that it lived on the checasha
berry and it was necessary to obtain
some of these berries.
Other freaks that had been secur
ed for the Annual County Fair were
from those that had been existing in
the University for some time. The
usual fat woman and the living skele
ton were to be in attendance. The
famous Missouri mule and bucking
exhibitions were also arranged for,
In a protest signed "An Academic''
the action of the Law inter-class
team in claiming the championship
was denounced. The writer based
his argument on three points, first,
that a Law could play on the team of
his class and so there was no need
for a split in the sophomore class;
second, the sophomore team should
not be required to play off the tie
with the Laws because they had al
ready done all that any champion
team had ever done in the past. The
third point of the argument was that
inasmuch as the Law college had only
paid one dollar toward the fund to
buy sweaters for the winning team,
against the twenty-four dollars con
tributed by the Academics, the Laws
by reason of their luke-warm finan
cial support should not be consid
ered.
Dean F. A. Burnett of the College
of Agriculture was in Chicago last
week attending the International
Livestock Show.
K. Kwel Chen, a Chinese student
from the province of Human, and a
senior in the University of Nebraska,
is attracting the attention of his in
structors by bis translations of Chi
nese poetry and by his original
poems. One of the latter was re
cently accepted for publication by
the Century Magaiine.
